INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Chargers RB Melvin Gordon, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the San Diego Chargers. You will see that the Chargers are playing the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 and there are four color-coded cells in the columns marked “vs. QBs,” “vs. RBs,” “vs. WRs” and “vs. TEs.” These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Colts) ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS. They are not the rankings for the Chargers, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THE GIVEN WEEK (the Colts). In the “Vs. RBs” cell for the Chargers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means it is the best matchup in fantasy for Chargers RBs in Week 3. This is a great indicator for Melvin Gordon owners, and for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup. With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2016 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question.

    1 pt ppr league. 1 pt per rushing attempt. 6 pts per receiving and rushing TDs. My WRs are AJ Green, D Bryant, K Benjamin, J Edelman, D Jackson, and J Gordon. My RBs are CJ Anderson, D Murray, D Washington, D Booker, and J White. I could use more depth at RB. Dwayne Washington, Jordan Howard, and Kenneth Dixon are out on waivers. Would you drop any of my RBs for one of these three RBs and/or would you try to trade for Derrick Henry? The Henry owner has E Lacy, F Gore, M Gordon, D Henry, S Vereen as RBs and O Beckham, E Sanders, T Austin, W Fuller, T Boyd as WRs.

    There are so many injuries going around to teams right now, luckily I haven’t been affected by any of them, and I’m ready to cash in on them. This is 0.5 PPR and I’m looking to upgrade to a WR1. Here’s my team:

    QB – Blake Bortles
    RB1 – David Johnson
    RB2 – Lamar Miller
    WR1 – DeAndre Hopkins
    WR2 – Amari Cooper
    TE – Dwayne Allen
    WR/RB – Eric Decker
    FLEX – Sterling Shepard
    Bench – Josh Gordon, Tevin Coleman, Derrick Henry, Ryan Matthews

    Pretty stacked, eh? Thanks RW. Now I’m looking to maybe pair Decker and a RB for a WR1. Here’s some options and who they’ve lost

    Team 1 (0-2, 7th): Antonio Brown (and Brandon Marshall, but meh). Not many injuries, but his RB situation is Gore, Lacy, & L. Murray.
    Team 2 (0-2, 9th): Kelvin Benjamin. Not gonna pair Decker with another, but I might be able to get a steal here, he has Arian Foster, J. Stewart, and Alshon Jeffery. His RBs now are Fozzy and Matt Jones. His team sucks.
    Team 3 (0-2, 10th): Odell Beckham Jr. He has Russell Wilson, Doug Martin, DJax, and Moncrief. He looks ripe for the picking.
    Team 4 (1-1, 6th): Dez Bryant. I’m not sure if he’s worth getting, but he also has Freeman, and I could bundle Coleman into something. He’s got Woodhead & Chris Ivory (and Fitz and Ingram if that is helpful).

    Sorry for the wall of text, but I need some advice on who I should aim for and what the best deal for me would be. I was leaning towards ODB or Antonio being the most worthwhile for me.

      I personally would, Doctson red-zone usage has been the best of any player in the NFL per-snap thus far. Even has he gets worked into the O, he will do so having big-time opportunities. He’s a better player than White in a better QB situation.

    Should I give up Stephon Diggs to get Alan Robinson. That would have seemed like a complete no brainer 2 weeks ago but Diggs looks set to break out in a big way and with AP out in theory the Vikes will need to pass a lot more.

      I’m not getting rid of Julio for a package involving Gurley at this time. He’s asking too much. Tell him to take a look at Gurley’s game log and upcoming schedule then see if you can get the price down. We love buying him low, but that’s not buying low.

    Got one error in the week 3 matchup tool – Looking at NO Saints players in a matchup against ATL, on the NO side, you have them matched up against TB, which looks like the same line as the LA Rams (copy/paste error maybe?).

    Love the tools every week guys! Received a trade offer in a .5 PPR league.. receiving Le’veon and Edelman and trading away Amari and Brandon Marshall. Was affected by the AP injury and dropped for Asiata, but think I might be giving away too much. My current RB/WR’s are:

      Not the trashman but I don’t bench AJ Green if I own him. It might be the right move sometimes, but you can get burned badly by benching your biggest studs due to matchup alone.

    how do you guys come up with these rankings? Reason I ask is you have Detroit RB’s still in the blue. You show Green Bay to be the 12th best match up vs the RB position. But if you look at the statistics they are by far and away the #1 run defense in the league through two weeks allowing 39 yards a game and just 1.6 yards per rush. Are you dating it back to last year?

      Our algorithm is proprietary. The explanation of how it is derived is in the post, but it is nothing having to do with last year.

      furthermore, you are looking at the wrong things if you are saying they are “far and away the best” even if based on those simple stats you’ve quoted. They’ve gone against all of TJ Yeldon, Matt Asiata and Jerrick McKinnon. This is why we don’t use normal stats and only our proprietary system powered by innovative scouting analytics.

    I’m starting Coleman over Mathews at RB. AMIRITE? Also, wondering if I should plug in D Jackson or Tyrell Williams or maybe even Ryan Matthews in my flex instead of Alshon Jeffery due to injury concerns. Half point PPR. Starting Rivers at QB if you think that adds some value to Williams.
