INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Chargers WR Travis Benjamin, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the San Diego Chargers. You will see that the Chargers are playing the New Orleans Saints in Week 4 and there are four color-coded cells in the columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Saints) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS. They are not the rankings for the Chargers, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THE GIVEN WEEK (the Saints). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Chargers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means the Saints offer are the best possible matchup for opposing WRs. This is a great indicator for Travis Benjamin and Tyrell Williams owners or for those thinking of rostering either of the players in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup. With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2016 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question.

    10-team standard scoring and thinking I should pick up A Hurns off ww (someone just dropped him) to improve my WR group to remainder of season. Should I drop Lockett for him, or one of my TEs? I think Lockett is the best choice to drop but appreciate your opinions.
    I’m 0-3 due to injuries and waiting for Bell & Gordon.

      He’s more than worth picking up. Don’t know where Byron would slot him exactly on the sheet, but Tate needs to be owned in all 10+ team leagues, esp. PPR.

        In another league (12 team, ppr), Derrick Henry and John Brown was dropped. Pick up Either by dropping Paul Perkins, or stand pat? I’m thinking pick up Henry for Perkins, as it’s 2RB/2WR+Flex, and I already have 4 good WRs (Decker, Evans, T Benjamin, Gordon, with Pryor as a WTH pickup).

      try to trade Morris to Zeke owner, and Williams to Bell owner. The Bell own should covet Williams strongly — otherwise we always like getting shitty bottom-roster options we’ll never ever start out of here and filled with higher upside options as DWASH (DET) and Perkins both are.

    NEED to make a 2 for 1 trade in order to consolidate my team and free up a roster spot for a Defense! Otherwise I’ll have to drop someone… Thinking of packaging Coleman with someone but not sure what guys to target? Which two guys would you try to move and who can I probably get realistically?       Focus on the Freeman owner and see if you can make something happen. Also look for people hurting at TE and see if you can make Walker part of the deal or sell high on Rudolph as part of the package.

      i could drop Dixon for him. We know what Stewart’s load is when he’s healthy. Dixon, not so much. Plus you could probably pick Dixon back up. As far as FAAB goes, unless you’re really hurting at RB, I wouldn’t go more than 30%

    Hi guys, need some help as my team is off to a slow start with Reed Marshall and Maclin on my roster. First I know it’s a tough matchup but can we expect Marshall to rebound this week? Should I play him in my flex or go with Maclin or Howard? Secondly I’m looking for help at RB with Crowell and Howard as my best RB2 options. Would you trade Maclin for Blount straight up?         Solid options- Michael Thomas value may be higher right now. Hard to say on the RBs. Maybe Ivory? Will just have to look at the 0-3 teams in your league see what their rosters are.

      We’d say ideally you’ll hang tight until we get a tiny bit more clarity. If you have to drop him for an important pick up, don’t feel bad about it- you probably need the extra bench spot for waiver wire moves anyways

    I know you guys are high on our boy Tevin Coleman, but you have him ranked fairly high this week compared to some lead backs with poor matchups like Sims. I feel like Sims is game script proof despite the stout Denver defense. Is Coleman over Sims really a no brainer?

    hey guys,
    I don’t understand the Matchup tools insistence that the Detroit Lions defense is a terrible matchup across the board this week. Is it a gamescript thing or what? they have given up the second most fp to the QB, 11th most to the WR and 2nd most to the TE, i guess they are stout up front but can be thrown on which is what teams try to exploit, successfully so far. I understand the ranking against the RB 6th fewest fp. Why smash your head against a rock? follow the path of least resistance, but please someone explain or justify the rankings this week. I am Maniacally mystified!!
