RosterWatch Week 14 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Colts RB Marlon Mack, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Colts (Mack’s team). You will see that the Colts opponent (OPP) is the Bills in Week 14, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bills’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Colts, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bills). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Colts, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Mack faces the best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 14 (the Bills). This is a great indicator for owners of Mack and Frank Gore, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering either of them in DFS contests. (This does not necessarily mean that Mack/Gore are terrific plays this week as Gore is old and Mack is not getting touches as consistently as you’d like, but rather, an example given to show you how to read the tool).

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

COLOR-CODES
(you like blue matchups best)

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

  1. Do you think Aaron jones will have a bigger role? Wondering if i should pick up and play over Darkwa

    1. He will probably get more than one touch but it’s hard to say how much work he will get.

  2. I have the Rams defense , but they are ranked low in your ranking. Should I pick up one thats higher?

    1. Depends on your options. Look for a defense that will have a lead. Dropbacks are a fantasy defenses best friend

  3. RB Q — Thursday’s game I have several under achievers on my roster — K. Hunt, M Gordon, D freeman, A Collins and L Murray — I am tempted to go with Hunt and Gordon and Freeman. Murray and Collins have tough matchups. What do you think?

    1. I like it.

  4. Do I really bench Wilson for Rivers?

    1. That is tough. You will want to check the rankings later in the week. The are constantly changing.

    One Point PPR
    NEED TWO
    Mike Evans
    Marquis Goodwin
    Michael Thomas

    1. Evans and Thomas

  6. Eli is at the top of the waiver wire cheat sheet. Would you consider streaming him over Cam this week?

    Thanks

    1. no, cam’s floor is too high

Hey hi guys want to tk u all great info i end up with most victories n pts i hv a bye n my studs all hv the worst matchups need help need 1 rb n a flex out of these studs AJ GREEN,BRANDIN COOKS,GOLDEN TATE,STERLING SHEPERED ,SAMAJE PERINE AND snag up MIKE DAVIS PLS HELP FOR WEEK 15 i know is early but im waiting to play a monster team Tks bunch win or loose u guy are solid n rock man

  8. 12 man ppr….looking to fill my flex, whats your take on p.barber?

    1. He is for sure a flex play in a 12 man league. The bucs where getting him involved before Martin had the head. I think he could be a difference maker down the stretch.

    2. Martin is now out of concussion protocol so Barber most likely takes a backseat to him again. If Martin doesn’t play Barber has a great match up vs the Lions. They cant stop anyone.

  9. Wilson or Wentz –both with terrible matchups based matchup tool. Maybe I should look to Vegas to decide? Any thoughts on this one?

  10. need 1RB and 1 FLEX out of these 5—-PPR league but the RBs get 0.3pts per rushing attempt………Kareem Hunt , Alex Collins , Mike Davis , Josh Gordon , Marvin Jones ???

    1. Even though Hunt hasnt been great lately I feel like you can not bench him. For flex, I would keep an eye out on how Stafford’s hand is. Right now it sounds like he will have a tough time throwing the ball. If this stays like this, I would go with the Black Anaconda. If Stafford starts throwing in practice and doesnt sound like his hand is affecting him go with Jones.

  11. RW,
PPR. Can play up to 5 WR with two flex spots. Can Roster 6 wr total. I’m going with Evans, Dez, Hill, the Anaconda, and Goodwin. That leaves Crowder on my bench. Sound right? If so, Kearse, Westbrook, Doctson all dropped this morning. Drop Crowder for any of them for next week (if I win) or hold? Could also drop Crowder for Mike Davis as Rb Depth which I’m lacking (Freeman, McKinnon, duke, A. Jones, Gio)

    Thank you again!!

“Laying Down Newton’s Law” 8 team standard
Got 1st place locked up so don’t care about this week. Week 15 and 16 are our playoffs
RB’s are Fournette, Gordon, Hunt, Collins and Lynch
WR’s – Currently have Brown, Allen, M Jones and Doctson as WR’s.
M Lee, Stills are available. Lee faces Hou and SF ; Stills faces Buf and KC for weeks 15 and 16.
Should I drop Doctson (he sees Ari and Den) for one of these guys? Which one would be best – Week 16 is biggest concern.

    1. You got to like the matchups for Lee. In an 8 man league you have to play the matchups more. Dropping Doctson is not a bad idea for those juicy matchups.

      1. Post By Longhornfireman

Thanks for the thoughts, that was where I was leaning. Your advice has been spot on all year.

  13. I’m in a keeper league and I don’t know everybody, is Josh Gordon above Mike Evans?

    1. Not this week. Evans could have a coming out party like Juilo did a few weeks ago. The lions are a disaster on defense.

      1. I’m talking for beyond in a keeper league.

  14. Dez or j gordon

    1. I have the same choice this week and I’m going Gordon.

Can I really start Alex Smith or jimmy G over brees in the first round of the playoffs? I also own m Thomas, kamara, and Julio. A lot of exposure in the game tonight…

    1. I wouldn’t. Brees has a very nice floor. Tonights game is a good game to have a lot of exposure to.

  16. Demarco Murray, Perine, & Morris. Need 2.

    1. Perine and Morris

  17. Post By paulbwaiter@gmail.com

Sorry one more question. If hogan plays do I start him over Demaryius?

    1. It would be hard to leave Hogan on the bench for Demaryius.

      1. Post By paulbwaiter@gmail.com

        Thanks for your help

  18. Mccown or Russell Wilson. I do own the Seahawks Defese and the best option on the waiver wire is Packers D. NEED HELP!!! PPR

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

      Between those two, Wilson.

    2. Gotta play Wilson. Sounds like you have to roll with the hawks. I would not play Green Bays d

  19. It would be hard to leave Hogan on the bench for Demaryius.

  20. need 1, standard no flex. already starting K Allen.

    Robby Anderson
    M thomas
    Dez

    1. Prob Thomas, argument for Dez with Janoris out. Check the matchups and the over / unders. Trufant is likely back, and a tough matchup for Thomas.

  21. Post By sattmchrupp@yahoo.com

I have Mariota and Stafford. Should I roll with one of them, or pick one of the below off the wire?

    Winston
    Dalton
    Garoppolo
    Bortles
    Taylor
    McCown

    1. Go with the guy highest in our QB rankings! Dalton is tempting.

  22. Post By deadeye316@gmail.com

    matt ryan or Josh McCown?
    Coleman tonight or Kearse?
    ppr

    1. I’d roll Ryan. Tough call on Coleman vs Kearse. Check the matchups- and last week’s snaps % for Coleman in the Snap Count tool. Can’t be too excited about Kearse at DEN, but I suppose he could always get a TD.

  23. Do I roll with Brees tonight or wait and hope for Stafford???? Really wish I had more info on the hand…….

    1. Prob roll Brees in a high O/U

  24. Are the matchup tool and the weekly rankings relative to eachother ?

    1. Matchup tool is more of a tiebreaker for those that are ranked close to one another.

  25. Need an Rb2, TE and Flex in PPR
    rbs- Barber Powell Kerwynn Riddick
    Tes- ASJ Olsen Davis Anderson
Flex- all above + Sanders Inman Grant

  26. Would you start Winston over Wilson and Wentz? thanks

    1. Winston has a pretty high floor vs Detroit this week. Not sure I would start him over those two but it isnt too crazy to do so. I would prob start Wentz.

  27. I looked at the rankings and matchup tool, but still struggling. Should I start Jameis or maybe Garoppolo over Russ? Also, need to start one of Doctson (but against Hayward), Devante Parker, Dede, and Will Fuller. From both positions I just need solid points. I think the rest of my team can carry me this week. Despite what I just said I’m seriously considering Garoppolo and Fuller instead of Russ and Doctson.

    1. I would start Winston over both of those options. Dede is the start out of your WRs. Both of those guys are your safest bet due to the solid floors.

  28. Post By jebarnett70@yahoo.com

I’m very concerned about Josh Norman’s ability to marginalized Keenan Allen if he shadows him, including into the slot which their DC has said he is willing to do.

Should I play Wallace over Keenan. I don’t see much of a ceiling for Allen and I need points in a non-PPR

  29. Norman normally lines up on one side of the field almost all the time. He has yet to shadow anyone this year.

    1. Post By jebarnett70@yahoo.com

Yes but they haven’t faced a true Alpha yet. Allen has been key to the chargers win streak and taking him out would make sense. The DC this year said he will have Norman shadow if situation calls for it. Allen is slow and could be shut down by Norman. I think almost every analyst is missing this, except at NBC.

  30. 1st rd of playoffs and need to upset the #1 seed. Who should I start between Big Ben or Winston? Ben has a historically tough time with the Ravens but they’re secondary is beat up. Winston has killed me every time I have started him.Pick Martin back up and drop Barber? Mike Davis is also available. I have Hunt and McCaffrey starting. What moves and who should I start? Thanks!

  31. 1 point PPR choose 2:

    Alex Collins
    Frank Gore
    Jordan Howard
    Samaje Perine
    Jack Doyle
