This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2018 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the 49ers (Garoppolo’s team). You will see that the 49ers’ opponent (OPP) is the Chiefs in Week 3, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Chiefs’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

AGAIN – They are not the rankings for the 49ers, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Chiefs). In the “OPP vs. QBs” cell for the 49ers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Jimmy G. faces our best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 3 (the Chiefs). This is a great indicator for owners of Jimmy G. — and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

    I’m a little thin at RB… Fournette, Lamar Miller, C. Thompson, and Latavius is what I have. I am pretty strong at WR… Michael Thomas, Agholor, Keenan Cole, Chris Hogan, and Josh Gordon. Gronk is my TE, so now I have 3 Pats.

    We play 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 Flex (1/2 PPR). Should I try to trade Josh Gordon and Lamar Miller for someone like Jordan Howard? I’m having trouble gauging if I am giving up too much for him or too little if I just do a one-for-one trade using just Josh Gordon.

    Drafted Marvin Jones in the 5th. Picked up Golladay in the 16th round. Love what Golladay is giving me. I would like to trade away one of these guys, instead of having (and starting) both Lions WRs.

    Want to get a RB. Question is, which one will bring me more value, which one do I want to keep, and what do you think I could get for these guys? Should I go for Collins/Drake/Ajayi? Or am I better off holding and starting both?

      I would trade one. It’s never good to have to play two wrs on the same team. Try to shop around and get a value check on them. You might not be able to get good enough value for Jones right now since he has started slow.

    12 team standard

    My WRs are k. Allen, juju, sanders, Cobb, callaway, d-Jax.

    RBs are fournette, d. Henry, yeldon, k. Johnson, m. Walton

    Should I trade sanders for 1 of k. Drake, AP, or c. Thompson and if so who? Or maybe give someone other than sanders?

    The other owner has d Adams, thielen, Goodwin, Funchess so he doesn’t necessarily need anything but was interested in my WRs.

    10-team, Non-PPR league and I’m 0-2 (due to injuries/slow QB start, etc). Think my team is good but slow starters so want to make choices to build my roster with some higher upside players. I don’t like to roster more than one QB/TE/DST.

    Okay to drop C Carson for one of Cobb, Callaway, JBrown, or Ekeler? Cobb & Brown were just dropped and I’ve been watching Ekeler & Callaway as potential Flex or better in weeks to come. The way they’re using MGordon, I don’t think it can last all season without risk of injury.

    And, is it just me that’s surprised by LAC’s reduction in Keenan’s usage thus far?

    I have Mixon out this week and need to start 2 of these Collins, AP, Dion Lewis, Wilkens or Eckler.
    It is crazy to think after the first 2 weeks that Eckler has stand alone value with the points he has put up?
    Having a hard time trusting Collins.

    Also was offered a trade of Allen Robinson for Andrew Luck what do you think. I have JJones, D Hopkins, K Golliday and Edelman. I picked a qb in late rounds so had Carr and Mariota but dropped Mariota for Tyrod Taylor.
    I need a qb I can trust just not sure it is Luck.

      They want Rivers because they think they can buy lowest on him. If it were us, we’d prob sell high on Big Ben. Obv if ur worried about AR , trade him. You’re the one with the scarce assets, you dictate which QB they get.

      it’s a little risky considering aaron rodgers is a tweak away from a potentially prolonged injury, and bernard might be useless in as soon as 3 weeks.

    First of all, I’d like to say thank you guys for considering us all as family on this years first edition of the TradeCast. I haven’t won a title yet, but as a member of RosterWatch Nation, I know I eventually will! Thank you guys for all the great tools and content you provide us with everyday. You can count on my support every year. With that being said, here’s my question:

    ‪With 8 touches in Week 1, then 13 touches in week 2, Kerryon Johnson’s workload seems to be trending up. I know the week 2 might have something to do with Blount being ejected, but is it within the realm of possibility that he can get a healthy 15+ touch workload this week vs the Patriots and be a sneaky start, given the expected game script?

    Need to start 1-2 RB and 3-4 WRs. Have Breida and Gordon for RBs. Have Antonio Brown, Antonio Callaway, Larry Fitzgerald, Josh Gordon and Adam Thielen.     Need 1 rb from- penny, r freeman, or LAT MURRAY. Murray and penny are close per matchup tool w murray higher but unsure of his workload. If cook gets again or even if they blow out the Bill’s I’d think cook is pulled for Murray.

    Do i take that gamble?

    Also for flex: JoshGordon, chris Hogan, enunwa, or 1 of the rbs above?
    Per matchup tool seems it should be Hogan (I suspect Gordon plays very little). Enunwa matchup really good but I see that game as a likely dud of a game.

    Need 1 wr from Ginn, pettis, or Anthony miller? Per matchup tool pettis has best matchup but even w or wo Goodwin, hes likely too much a stretch to play.

    Or I can cut Ginn or pettis and play: snead, Robby Anderson, Sheppard, Dede westbrook or even Kamar Aiken as #2wr for eagles.
