RosterWatch Week 3 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only traditional “fantasy points against” metrics (schedule-adjusted after 3 weeks of play), but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2022 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow/pace, sportsbook indicators, volume of total projected snaps and much, much, more.

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you roster Vikings RB Dalvin Cook, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Vikings (Cook’s team). You will see that the Vikings’ opponent (OPP) is the Detroit Lions in Week 3, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

They are not the rankings for the VIKINGS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the LIONS). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Vikings, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means that Cook faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 3 (the Lions). This is a great indicator for fantasy managers of Cook and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: Vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup ratings can change slightly through the week as lines and totals shift, or as injuries to key defensive personnel occur.

1 is the best (easiest) matchup, 32 is the worst (toughest).

(you like blue matchups best)

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

  1. 12-team, 0.5 PPR, 0-2 record:

Would you guys trade Ceedee for Jacobs and Hopkins?

    QB: Mahomes
    RB1: Najee
    RB2: Edmonds
    WR1: Ceedee
    WR2: Terry
    TE: Pitts
    FLEX: Michael Thomas

Bench: Penny, Meyers, Gallup, Devonta Smith

    1. Keep in mind Hopkins can’t play until Week 7, plus has a week 13 bye. Jacobs is getting carries, but almost no passing work, and they are empty calorie carries. Ceedee still has the mega upside. HOLD

  2. Post By Show Me Your TDs

14 tm PPR 0-2 (went against the highest scorer both weeks unfortunately)

    QB: Cousins
RB: Conner, Fournette, Pierce, Herbert, TDP (IR slot)
WR: Cupp, M. Williams, London, Gabe Davis, MVS, Olave, Nico Collins
    TE: Thomas

    R. White was dropped, Mooney was dropped, Rondale was dropped.

Collins is droppable, the question is should I target Mooney or White? im thinking arouns 10% claim for each. Thoughts?

    2) second (16 Team 1PPR league) question is E. Moore Droppable for T. Burks? Other WRs: Lamb, Higgins, Olave, C Samuel, Hollywood

    Thank you

    1. 1) I would pick up White as the handcuff to Fournette you’re strong at WR don’t need Mooney. maybe try to trade one of the WRs for RB help.

      2) Hold Elijah Moore

      1. Post By Show Me Your TDs

Thank you, nice $0 bid handcuff if needed. Keeping Moore as well, always good to get second (pro) opinions. I appreciate it

  3. Would you trade away Austin Ekeler & Kyle Pitts for Amon Ra & Najee in PPR?

    1. Who are the RBs/WRs on your team and who is available on waivers for TE

      1. TE options are: Hurst, Irving, Kmet, Albert O, Njoku

Other RBs are Dobbins, Hunt, and Melvin
WRs are Bateman, cooks, Hollywood, Elijah, Devonta, Olave

        1. Concern would be whether we believe Ekeler gets heavy usage again or if they’re preserving him season long for the playoffs

    2. As long as you can plug in a TE, it’s a nice trade. Najee has been disappointing, but he going to be the prime back. Just understand if Pitts takes off, you have to live with it. I like the trade and its a very fair one.

I have D. Henry and Cam Akers. A guy wants to trade me for Mixon and Kittle. It’s a PPR. What are your thoughts? I’m in dead last and he’s in ninth and we play each other this week…..

    1. Post By

Even better, now he wants Kamara instead of Henry.

      My team

      Kyler Murray
      Tyreek Hill
      D Henry
      Tyler Higbee
      Josh Jacobs
      Adam Theilen

      Cam Akers
      Keenan Allen
      Chris Godwin

    2. I’d probably do it, but I’m biased against Cam Akers.

      1. Post By

So take the trade of Kamara and Akers for Mixon and Kittle?

  5. 10-team .5 PPR. 2WR, 2RB, 1 Flex.

Is it conceivable to start both Tyreek Hill and Waddle vs Buffalo?

    Other WR options:

    1. Other WR options:
      – Garrett Wilson
      – C Samuel
      – Cooks
      – London
      – Olave

I’ve got Gabe Davis slotted at Flex currently

      1. It’s conceivable, but I wouldn’t do it. You have too many other good options, and the Buffalo secondary is too good. I’d stick with Davis based on the matchup

    2. The target “tree” is very consolidated in Miami. Both should have a 8 target flor and 15 target upside. started em

      1. I tend to agree with Alan here- not ideal but I actually do think starting Hill and Waddle together most weeks is feasible given their floors and mega upside.

  6. PPR
    Hunt, A Cooper, E Moore, M Carter.
    Need 1

    1. Hunt seems to have a very solid role, and gets some nice goaline opportunities.

  7. Kenneth Walker was dropped in one of my leagues. How what percentage of faab would throw at him in a 12 team 1ppr league? Like all I could use a high upside flier.

    1. You know your league best so if you want him get aggressive. In a 12 teamer not many RBs have that same upside, Trashman said 25%, that seems like a rock soli bid

  8. you guys at RW are the best!

just curious why the site no longer offers defense and kicker rankings? is that not a pro member feature anymore?

    1. We will pass your note onto the guys.

  9. 12 Team Standard RB question.
    James Robinson
    Jeff Wilson
    C. Edmonds
    K. Walker

I want Zeke Elliot. What would be a fair trade to offer? I was thinking either Edmonds or Wilson straight up.

    1. Yeah or maybe even both if push comes to shove tbh

  10. Post By

Good morning all. 0.5 PPR need one between Cooper, metcalf, Zeke, and jrob.

    1. Prob Cooper or JRob. All are decent options this wk though!

      1. Post By

Ok follow up. Would you start JRob over pierce this week? Chargers defense scare me.

  11. Good afternoon. 1/2 PPR. Amari Cooper or Garrett Wilson in the Flex. Thanks.

    1. Cooper is the safe route with a built in floor and a good matchup. Wilson’s matchup stinks, but he got hella targets last week. If you need the upside, I’d go with Wilson

    2. please tell us you played Cooper

  12. Post By

    Hey Rosterwatch Nation
Would you trade AJ Brown, C Patterson, Dotson for Waddle and B Hall?

I have Tua, Goddert and CSamuel.
    Also have
    James Robinson
    D Harris

    Oh and Cooper Kupp

    1. Seems like a fair trade. I like your side better, but easy to see the other side turning a profit

  13. Standard league, need 2. Zeke Elliott, Kittle, and Tyler Higbee. Thanks
