This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2019 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Cardinals RB David Johnson, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Cardinals (Johnson’s team). You will see that the Cardinals’ opponent (OPP) is the Bengals in Week 5, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bengals’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Cardinals, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the BENGALS). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Cardinals, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Johnson faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 5 (the BENGALS). This is a great indicator for owners of DJ, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup rankings can shift through the week with line and O/U movements as well as injury news.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

    Okay I might be getting a little too cockamamie but I’m trying to make a deal for Lamar Jackson from Team A (0-4) so that I can potentially package Brady in a deal to the other 0-4 team (Team B). Team B sent me an offer of Freeman and Olsen for my Brady and Edelman so based on that, what do you think I should do? Need some offers and I know Team A wants to make a “blockbuster” deal and was willing to part with guys like Hooper and Evans but I know he’s interested in my D. Henry. I’m still annoyed after getting burned by trading away OBJ for Brady and Edelman after the Pats acquired AB but with AB gone Brady isn’t all that exciting…

      you traded away OBJ for a package involving a QB in a 1QB league? Don’t ever do anything remotely like that again. Also, when you ask this sort of question about a three-way trade, it really does make my head spin. I think you’ll get better answers from us if you sort of cut down the scenarios here. We’re trying to make a deal with Team A so that you can then turn around and make a deal with Team B? First, I’d make sure that Team B would take the deal if I acquired the assets in question. Also, you are dealing with O-4 teams here. Make sure you are letting them know you are the one calling the shots. THEY need better rosters, not you.

        Yes Alex I know my questions can be a little long so appreciate you bearing with me!

        In my defense before I did that OBJ trade, I had you guys on Twitter first and you approved it but anywho yes I already have two different offers …

        I can accept a trade of Lamar Jackson and Evans for my Derrick Henry and Mclaurin from that first 0-4 team …

        … meanwhile I’m in talks with that other team and he wants to give me Olsen and Freeman for Brady and Edelman… and in fact there’s an actual offer still pending of my Edelman for his Freeman but I was hoping for some other counter ideas to that Olsen/Freeman deal to make get Fournette instead since I might be trading away Henry for Jackson in that first deal?

      Michael Thomas is the better fantasy play than Marlon Mack. You surely have more WRs than those two but I’d take him in a vacuum and hopefully you can find some waiver wire additions to help supplement your backfield. If you have to win this week, we aren;t even entirely sure if Mack plays.

      You can drop Ross for any of those guys you like. Is Golden Tate available? Of all the players you listed, I probably like Burkhead the most. There will be games this year where Michel will be held back and we’ll know we get the Rex run. He’s a nice bench guy to have for when those situations come up.

      I don’t think you need to offer that much. Does the Le’veon owner have a decent TE? You could sell high on Waller and roll with Kittle now that his bye is over. Waller + one of those RBs for Le’Veon could work for both of you if he is in TE purgatory.

    Why do the WR rankings always (on all sites) have Josh Gordon around WR20 and Phillip Dorsett around WR40 when their offensive statistics are very similar. In fact Dorsett has 3 TDs to Gordon’s 1TD.

      i would think one of those rbs straight up would do the trick. chances are you didn’t give up much to get those wrs in the first place, so it’s not absurd, but i wouldn’t think it necessary.

    I am back to this same trade deal you helped me with a few days ago. Lost Barkley and looking to sell high on Chubb for two backs to get me through.

    I get Hopkins, Aaron Jones and one of these three (Carson, Montgomery or Jacobs). Jacobs makes me hesitate with his next game against bears then the buy week. By that time I might Barkley close to back.
