This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2018 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Browns TE David Njoku, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Browns (Njoku’s team). You will see that the Browns’ opponent (OPP) is the Bucs in Week 7, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bucs’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

AGAIN – They are not the rankings for the Browns, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bucs). In the “OPP vs. TEs” cell for the Browns, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Njoku faces our best possible matchup for opposing TEs in Week 7 (the Bucs). This is a great indicator for owners of Njoku and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

    Any chance you guys will include the teams on bye in the matchup tool?

    I like to use your numbers to project a week or two out. In previous weeks, I noticed the teams on bye weren’t listed but you could sort out their matchup ranking because the rankings went all the way to 32. This week, they only go through 28.

      Sorry, we can’t do that. Apologies. We had to change the way it pulls data and it doesn’t pull teams without byes anymore so we only list the matchups for the week. You shouldn’t use it for upcoming weeks anyway as personnel changes with injuries, etc. and also a lot of the matchup has to do with specific opponent pace, plays run, etc. WE certainly appreciate the feedback, but not only is that something we can’t do, it’s also important that you understand the matchup tool is based on weekly trends in a lot of ways, not season-long.

      we can look into that or maybe making a slot tool, but when we tried integrating different slots rankings in the past, people went apeshit and demanded we outline who the slot WR was on each team, etc. Huge headache. It takes an average across all positions, hopefully those nuances can be found in our rankings, recommendations and other content. It’s a proprietary tool that’s been back-tested to be very helpful from a predictive standpoint as is, so we don’t want to mess with it too much to bog it down in minutiae. We are always looking at ways to add extra tools, though, and one breaking up the matchup between the specific receivers has been something we’ve been thinking over for a while now, so thanks for the comment.

      you can get Fournette for cheaper than that, it’s a good idea to try if you’re relying on Miller as an RB2 but see if you can get the guy to give you LF + something for Hill after his monster game. I don’t want to ship JuJu.

      I view those two guys about evenly ROS, if you’re OK with a gamble, it’s probably OK but I’d lean toward sticking with Lewis. Reich comes from the Pederson tree of loving infuriating RBBC’s. With that said,Mack is on a higher volume offense that runs many more plays per game with a better QB. Dion Lewis is clearly the better NFL player, though. Something tells me we haven’t heard the last of him this year. D Henry on the other hand is useless as tits on a bull right now.
