RosterWatch Week 8 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2019 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Seahawks (Wilson’s team). You will see that the Seahawks’ opponent (OPP) is the Falcons in Week 8, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Falcons’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Seahawks, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the FALCONS). In the “OPP vs. QBs” cell for the Seahawks, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Wilson faces our best possible matchup for opposing QBs in Week 8 (the FALCONS). This is a great indicator for owners of Wilson and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup rankings can shift through the week with line and O/U movements as well as injury news.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

  1. Hey guys!
In a 12 team Standard league where we start 3 WR. Looking ahead to week 10 I’ll have Sutton and DHop on bye. I have Curtis Samuel and Tyrell Williams on my bench who could go that week.

I’m thinking about packaging Sutton and Gerald Everett in a trade for Mike Evans or TY to a guy who needs TE help this week. I’ve got Evan Engram as my starter. Thoughts?

Appreciate all the hard work and advice!

Is it time to pick up Cam? Have Darnold and Josh Allen…Darnold looked bad! Hoping Darnold could
    carry me ros?

  3. Drop Damian Williams for either Mark Walton or D Henderson in a ppr?

  4. Need some help on a defense Q. I holding both the Vikings and the Jags defense. Need to drop one of these so I can pick up Sanu. Which is best for this week and for the ROS. Thanks

Well now that I got Kamara and Cohen for Ingram and Henry, I think im gonna propose Mixon and Tyreek Hill to the 5-2 to try and land Fournette and see if he pulls the trigger, also gonn propose Tyreek and Mixon to the 4-3 Bell Owner.

  6. 12 team .5ppr league

Currently have Crowder as my WR5 and Henderson as my RB4 (Just lost Karryon). I don’t see playing either of these two.

The following players are available on WW:
RB- R Penny, K Drake, M Walton, Pollard, R Armstead.
    WR- Sanu, Stills, Dorsett

I’m looking for a high upside play.
Should I drop Crowder and/or Henderson to pick up any of the above? What order would you prioritize?

Thanks for all your help. You guys are the best!!

    1. Do you like either of the Oakland RBs with Jacob’s questionable?

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

        Not really

  7. Trade question – I’m challenged at QB currently rostering Allen and Brissett. I was offered wilson for Chubb. my other RBs are Aaron Jones, McCaffrey, Ingram and McCoy. .5 per and we start 3 RBs, including flex. What’s your view of the trade. I turned it down. Was I wrong!

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Good job turning it down. You should take Brissett or Allen and throw a flex on top to see if you can “upgrade at QB”— but your QBs aren’t even that bad.

12 team, .5 PPR, currently sitting at 5-2:

    QBs: K. Murray, P. Mahomes
    RBs: L. Bell, D. Henry, L. Murray
    WRs: M. Evans, J. Brown, C. Samuel, C. Kirk, M. Williams
    TE: H. Henry
    DEF: Patriots (LFG!)

What type of moves should I be aiming to attempt? Notable players on the last-placed teams in my league: S. Barkley, K. Allen, T. Gurley, O. Beckham, A. Robinson, M. Mack, B. Cooks, P. Lindsay, J. Jacobs, C. Sutton, D.J. Chark, and J. Smith-Schuster.

Would prob go after Barkley and Beckham while keeping Bell, Evans, Henry, and Patriots DEF

WR prob biggest priority- if you can’t get ODB maybe even Sutton, ARob, or KA would be a nice add- if you could send two WR off (not named Mike Evans) for one of those guys in return

Or, If not going after Jacobs or Mack for RB3 wouldn’t be bad

  9. 10 team, standard and tied for 1st at 6-1

    QB Jackson & Brees
RB Fournette, A Jones, Latavius, T Coleman, C Hyde, Montgomery
WR Hopkins, D Adams, Chark, McLaurin, Fitzgerald
    TE Andrews
    DST SF

My opponent is the other 6-1 team and my only healthy QB and TE are on bye week. I need to drop at least one player to pick up a QB unless Brees plays (I don’t expect him to). I’m leaning Hyde or even Fitzgerald after reviewing my team for ROS. My league doesn’t trade much and doubt I could effect a 2:1 trade to free up a position. Who’s the best to drop? Thanks in advance.

    1. And even if I keep everyone, would a trade to a 1-6 team, my Fitzgerald for their R Anderson be good? Or, this is the only losing team with a solid RB1 (Barkley) so what combination for a consolidation trade be good?

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

If you don’t own Kamara– Latavius might be best to drop late week so nobody else can add, then he goes to BYE next wk, then AK prob back

Could consider dropping Latavius, Chark, Fitzgerald, or Montgomery if you have to

Try to get Anderson AND Barkley in a 3:2 consolidation deal, first
If not go after Barkley and Anderson Separately in two separate 2:1 offers

  10. Hey there! Got offered Lev Bell & OBJ for my Barkley. It’s a no penalty 1 keeper .5ppr. My team has:
RBs: Barkley, Henry, Michel, Ty Johnson, David Mont,
WRs: T Hill, Evans, Juju, R Anderson, AJ Green. I like the offer but don’t think I need it. Starts 2RB 3WR 1flex.

Bonus Q. If Matt Ryan sits, do I drop Moore or Darnold for Schaub and start him in a 2QB league?

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

We only accept liquidation trades if we have identified we need to upgrade our starting roster, and that the trade does indeed do that. Is that your situation here?

In a vacuum, it is a very solid offer— you could also see if it helps you through any bye week issues to maintain the best starting lineup possible every week through this important second half run– that would be another benefit albeit somewhat more marginal

  11. Kyler is my starting QB but I don’t love his matchup this week. Pick up and start Stafford or Tannehill instead?

  12. Post By Byron Lambert

    Maybe Stafford, not clear

  13. Josh Allen or Kirk Cousins? 6pt for passing TD

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

QB Rankings will be updated this afternoon- keep an eye out. Two solid options.

    Need trade input,

12 team full point ppr, Can start 2rb 2wr 2 rb/wr/flex. 3-4 in a log jammed record league.

I trade away Pats D/Tevin Coleman and receive Saints D/DJ Moore/Mark Walton

(RBs left would be Breida, hyde, ty johnson, smallwood)
(WRs left would be Thielen, Edelman, Golladay,Tyreek,Preston Williams, Dorsett, Demaryius)

    Thanks

    1. I’m not going to make that trade.

      1. Post By Mr_hamms@yahoo.com

        Preciate it Alex

  15. 14 team standard – LeSean McCoy, Breida, or D.J. Moore for flex? If it matters, I already have stake in the KC-GB game with Tyreek Hill…

    Thanks!

  16. Hey guys, how would you interpret a player being ranked higher than another player in his positional rankings, but lower in the flex rankings? Example: Metcalf and C. Kirk. Thanks!
