The Fantasy Fallout Heading Into Week 6

Another week, another season-ending injury. We feel for you J. Charles, but where there’s injury there’s opportunity. Check out who is going to be the No.1 waiver pickup of the week on the RosterWatch Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet along with the rest of the fallout from Sunday’s games.

Redskins vs Falcons

  • The only major difference between Matt Jones and Alfred Morris’ games was that Jones got the call on that short TD scamper. This could go back and forth all season. Jones has the upside though.

  • Jamison Crowder is going to maintain a considerable role in the ‘Skins offense even when DeSean Jackson returns, as the slot WR. If you have the room, you should think about picking this kid up.

  • Whoever is starting at TE in Washington is the defacto redzone target.

  • If Devonta Freeman can do it against the Skins, he should be able to do it to anybody.

  • I wouldn’t read too much into Tamme’s action on Sunday. The Falcons must have seen something on tape and exploited a weakness. This may matter more for streaming tight ends against the ‘Skins than it does anything concerning Tamme. That being said, if Julio is questionable all week, Tamme may be worth a spot play versus the Saints.

Browns vs Ravens

  • Because Cleveland has no true no.1 receiver, defenses don’t really know who to key in on. Four Browns had six or more receptions Sunday. Are teams really going to gameplan to stop a moderately talented journeyman tight end like Gary Barnidge? No, and that’s why he keeps feasting.

  • This is a QB’s NFL these days. Don’t hold onto a Peyton Manning if he’s losing you games when there are numerous other options like McCown or Bortles who can put up decent numbers on a weekly basis. Big names won’t get you fantasy championships, big scores will.

  • Buck Allen is worth a speculative add in case Forsett misses any time with his ankle.

Seahawks vs Bengals

  • I don’t feel sorry for the Seahawks. They have one of the most dominant tight ends in the game, yet they won’t gameplan for him. You can’t drop Graham, but you can try to trade him.

  • Andy Dalton is matchup proof until we see proof of the contrary

  • With a passing game that’s firing on all cylinders, it makes sense to have a back in the game that excels as a receiver. You can’t forget that Hill had 3 TDs last week though. Every team has trouble running right at Seattle.

Rams vs Packers

  • Even behind the Rams suspect O-line, Todd Gurley just eats up yards. He already looks like the best back in football.

  • The Rams are manufacturing touches and targets for Tavon Austin. He shouldn’t still be on your waivers come Wednesday morning if he’s still unowned in your league.

  • Brian Quick is being involved more in the offense. He’s yet to do anything of note yet, but the Rams are in desperate need of playmakers and Quick fits the bill.

  • Like the Bengals, the Packers and other teams that can move the ball in the air at will probably won’t implement much of a running game when they play tough run defenses. Eddie Lacy will get his.

  • To this point in the season, James Jones leads all packers receivers in total fantasy points and average fantasy points.

Bears vs Chiefs

  • On most days, Martellus Bennett will do better than 32 yds on 11 targets. It’s nice to know he’s so involved in the offense though.

  • Charcandrick West is the pickup in the aftermath of Charles’ heartbreaking injury and should be your first waiver claim of the week. Knile Davis should still be owned though. I think both will see considerable action, as the Chiefs need the running game to generate offense. We all know Alex Smith probably isn’t going to. That said, Maclin and Kelce should see more looks in Charles’ absence.

Saints vs Eagles

  • Willie Snead is Drew Brees’ favorite target. I might be overreacting, but he’s a must-own IMO, especially considering Colston’s separated shoulder.

  • Demarco Murray needed 20 carries to gain 83 yards. Ryan Mathews needed 8  to get 73. Murray will continue to get the bulk of carries, but Mathews is the more effective back and he should serve as a decent flex in easier matchups.

Jaguars vs Buccaneers

  • I hope Blake Bortles’ sprained AC joint doesn’t keep him from playing football. He’s nothing spectacular for actual football yet, but in fantasy he’s the No.6 QB on the season. He could really come in handy for you Peyton Manning owners…

  • T.J. Yeldon finally scored a TD, and his owners collectively sighed in relief. He could start putting up monster numbers if he starts adding more TDs to his ridiculous amount of touches. He’s one to target in trades.

  • Now is the time to add TE Julius Thomas. With all the prospective waiver adds due to injury this week, there’s a good chance you can get him.

  • Doug Martin is finally rounding into form. I hope you stayed faithful to him.

  • Mike Evans’ value is the lowest it’s going to be all season, as his owners have to be put out by now. He comes with no guarantees, but he does have WR1 upside.

  • Charles Sims is Jameis Winston’s dump-off with no real tight end to go to. He’s worth flexing as long as ASJ is sidelined and maybe even then.

Bills vs Titans

  • Speaking Watkins, I think he’s in for a major uptick in fantasy production. The Bills aren’t generating much in the air without him.

  • Look for Buffalo to maybe add a running back this week if Karlos Williams can’t go. Boom Herron looks like the starter for week 6 right now though, in what is a cushy RB matchup with the Bengals.

  • It’s as I thought. Antonio Andrews is the Titans RB to own for at least the near future.

  • Dorial Green-Beckham didn’t have the production that I thought he would in week 5, but no Titan receiver did. I still think his best football this season is ahead.

Cardinals vs Lions

  • David Johnson is the Cardinals’ goal line back, which is a scary situation for fantasy purposes. He’s going to continue to have high upside, but his floor is going to be abysmally low.

  • Ellington owners should sell high. You can’t depend on 63 TD runs on only 3 carries on a weekly basis, and he’s not being used on the goal line so that limits his upside.

  • Matt Stafford looks void of any confidence under center. Downgrade Megatron for the time being, and boost Golden Tate a bit. Stafford only seems comfortable tossing short passes right now, and Tate got 18 of them this Sunday.

  • If I’m starting a Lions at RB this week, the only one I’m banking on is Theo Riddick. He’s been the most effective, and Abdullah has butterfingers these days.

Patriots vs Cowboys

  • Brandon Weeden is sapping all the other Cowboys’ fantasy potential. With no pass to respect, teams can put their efforts into stopping the run. I’d be shocked if Matt Cassel isn’t under center in week 7.

  • Christine Michael is still a hold. Wait until after week 7 to drop him unless you have to. His potential upside behind the Cowboys’ O-line is enough to wait on him.

  • Now might be the time to pick up Brandon LaFell if you’re weak at WR. He’s still got a couple weeks to go, but no WR behind Edelman has stepped up in his absence.

Broncos vs Raiders

  • Peyton Manning can be dropped for Bortles, Mariota, Carr…really any QB in the NFL with a decent passing game. Try to trade him first though.

  • Ronnie Hillman isn’t doing anything to take C.J. Anderson’s job from him. With Cleveland up next, followed by a string of cupcakes after the bye, Anderson is one to target in trades.

  • Bennie Fowler keeps moving up the WR pecking order. Keep watching out for him.

  • Marcel Reece is a player to think about flexing in daily leagues when the Raiders have tough matchups.

49ers vs Giants

  • Uh oh, an Anquan Boldin sighting. It looks like the 49ers have stopped trying to get cute, and they’re going back to feeding him and their RB to generate offense. No need to deviate from what has worked in the past.

  • Is this a turning point for Shane Vereen? Could be, especially if OBJ or Randle misses time with his hamstring. It could be anyway, as he proved to be New York’s most effective back last night.
