The Garbage Grab: Week 2

The Garbage Grab: Week 2

It’s week two of the Grab, and we’re knee deep in it. Feel obliged to give these guys a couple rinses and pop them into your lineups,  if you’re not the skittish type.

Joseph Fauria, TE Detroit Lions: Fauria is the least well known of the Lions tight ends, behind Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler, but I have a sneaking suspicion that’s all about to change starting this week against Arizona. He only had three targets last week, but he caught all of them, including one for a touchdown. The 6’7″ Fauria already has a penchant for the endzone, as he led the UCLA Bruins in touchdowns last year with 12, and though he won’t get match that this year, I think he has another TD in him this week.

Harry Douglas, WR Atlanta Falcons: Roddy White is still not healthy, and that means Harry Douglas is in for higher number of targets than usual. Also consider the fact that Atlanta is playing an invigorated Rams offense, and they will have to keep the pace up to stay in the contest. I like Douglas to pick up the slack.

Pierre Thomas, RB New Orleans Saints: I know the Saints have big plans for Mark Ingram this season, but they do every season, and it’s time they should realize that Thomas is still their best true running back. This was evident last week when Thomas out-produced Ingram on the ground and in the air. Not all of their games will be as high-flying as Week 1 versus Atlanta, including this week’s contest with Tampa Bay, and the running game will be a bigger part of the game plan.

Da’Rel Scott, RB New York Giants: I like Scott this week for what he can do with his hands, which is catch the ball. He was an asset in receiving last week against the Cowboys, and I think the Giants will have to throw the ball as much or more against a supercharged Peyton Manning-led Denver team.

Kyle Williams WR, San Francisco 49ers: I wouldn’t mind having a piece of any part of the Colin Kaepernick crew, and Williams is the cheapest date of the bunch. He was on the field for 55 plays against the Packers, and I like him to be on the field much of the time as the number 2—well 3 in actuality behind Boldin and Davis—receiver for San Francisco. Kaepernick loves to throw, and Williams should see a good number of them, as teams are going to be paying more attention to Boldin and Davis after their Week 1 performances.

Ace Sanders, WR Jacksonville Jaguars: Losing QB Blaine Gabbert is a good thing for everyone on the Jags offense including the speedy Sanders, who was voted most impressive rookie in training camp and wowed Byron and Alex at the Combine. Replacement QB Chad Henne has three times the arm of Gabbert, and that will show up on the stat sheet, as Sanders will provide a nice failsafe against a Raiders defense that can actually finally put some pressure on the QB. Cecil Shorts is still the man, but with Justin Blackmon still out, Sanders will show up on Sunday.

Donnie Avery, WR Kansas City Chiefs: I like Avery this week because of the team the Chiefs are facing—the Dallas Cowboys. The Chiefs are going to have to go big to match the in-air arsenal that the ‘Boys possess, and that means going deep to Avery. I think QB Alex Smith has at least a couple of long distance slings in that unimpressive arm of his.

Charles Clay, TE Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins don’t want Clay to have to be on the field as much as he was the first game of the season (64 snaps), but they may have no choice, as the other tight end options are lame, as is their running game right now. Clay is the definition of a utility player, and I think we’ll see him all over the field against an Indy defense that is our current 9th best matchup vs. fantasy TEs.

Ronnie Brown, RB San Diego Chargers: Brown actually led all Chargers backs in snaps in Week 1, which should raise an eyebrow on anyone, as he was the least talked about back coming into the season. It seems he’s the most trusted in pass protection, which goes a long way, especially since the Bolts with have to throw a lot to match the ferocity of Chip Kelly’s spread offense. Old man Brown still has some run left in him, and he’ll be on the field a lot this week. I actually like him best of the Chargers backs.

Carolina Panthers Defense: No, the Seahawks aren’t on the decline after a hard fought 12-7 win over Carolina opening week. The Panthers just have a pretty stout defense, and their opponent this week, The Bills, are about to find that out first hand.
