The Garbage Grab: Week 3

It’s Week 3 and players are dropping like flies! Do yourself a favor and check out these stinky studs compiled for your fantasy consideration.

Zach Sudfield, TE New England Patriots: Yes, Sudfield put up a fat goose egg in week one before sitting out his second game entirely, but the Pats are starving for ball catchers and he is one of the few guys on the roster that actually fits the description.  I’m not sure how he’ll hold up when Gronk gets back, but he’ll be a spot play this week.

Ryan Broyles, WR Detroit Lions: Broyles is back in action, and with third receiver Patrick Edwards hobbled with an ankle injury, he should see his fair share of targets against a Redskins team that can’t stop the pass. Even if you don’t play him, he should be on rosters in 12 or more team leagues from now on.

Jackie Battle, RB Tennessee Titans: No Shonn Greene means even more Jackie Battle who has sniped a TD from Chris Johnson already this season. He won’t accumulate many yards, but he will see goal line carries, if the Titans actually get to the goal line. A middling Chargers defense shouldn’t prohibit their chances.

Ted Ginn, WR Carolina Panthers: Ginn is the situational deep threat on a Panthers team that will need to go deep to keep up with a Giants team that puts the ball in the air. He won’t always be useful, but this is one game where he’ll come in handy.

Felix Jones, RB Pittsburgh Steelers: The lone bright spot on the Steelers offense, at least according to coach Mike Tomlin, Jones rushed ten times for 37 yards last week. (Editor’s Note: Some “bright spot.”) If Tomlin’s adulation is any indication, we can expect a least a minor uptick in Jones’ carries. Throw in a TD, and that’s a decent fantasy week — I don’t care who you are.

Jacquizz Rodgers, RB Atlanta Falcons: Jason Snelling has been the hot pickup since Steven Jackson has gone down to injury, but Rodgers is the Falcons back who has a chance at making a dent in the Miami front seven, the Dolphins have traditionally been killed by smaller, shiftier backs. Next week may be a different story.

Robert Woods, WR Buffalo Bills: As Bills QB E.J. Manuel continues to take strides, so do his receivers, namely Woods. With counterpart Stevie Johnson to be covered by Antonio Rodgers-Cromartie most of the game, look for Manuel to connect with Woods in a major way this week.

Kyle Williams, WR San Francisco 49ers: Williams was in the grab last week, but didn’t have the kind of game that warranted notice, unlike when I told you to start Charles Clay. That will change this week, as Vernon Davis will most likely sit out the 49ers contest with the Colts, and Colin Kaepernick will have to change up his target structure. Williams will be second on that list only to Anquan Boldin.

Buffalo Bills Defense: The Bills defense has put up more fantasy points than the Texans, Ravens, and 49ers this season. Yes, it’s early, but they do look promising with nine sacks on the year, second only to Kansas City, who’s padded their stats on Thursday. They should be able to get to Jets QB Geno Smith in the backfield and in the air in a game that doesn’t shape up to be a high scoring affair, at least on paper.
