Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 8
Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 8
You know it’s a bizarre season when you can’t play a single Packers receiver while you can start at least 3 pass catchers on the Jets. Here’s the fallout going into week 8…
Buccaneers vs Bills
- O.J. Howard had more receptions in week 7 than he’s had in 6 games this season, 2 of them scores. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Adam Humphries had his worst game of the season either. It seemed like the Bucs intentioned on getting Howard the ball against a team that has been stifling WRs. I don’t know that this is a trend, but Howard is worth adding if you have the space just in case that it is.
- Cameron Brate still had 9 targets even with the O.J. Howard breakout. He should still be safe to start.
- New add Deonte Thompson led all Bills pass catchers with 107 yards. It was on only 4 catches, but it’s a strong start worth investigating. Thompson has been a journeyman for most of his career, but the Bills don’t have a better option right now. Zay Jones is still floundering even after leading the team in targets(9).
Cardinals vs Rams
- Woe to any Cardinal not named Adrian Peterson. With Drew Stanton now under center, the Cards are going to lean heavily on A.P. Defenses are also going to stack the box, but at least he has a shot. I’m staying far away from Arizona pass catchers with the exception of maybe Larry Fitzgerald, who still gets a major downgrade.
- Sammy Watkins has been garbage for most of the season, but a lot of it has to do with the defenses he’s faced, as was the case on Sunday. Unfortunately, things won’t get easier anytime soon with NYG, HOU, and MIN on the schedule for the next 3 weeks. Trade him where you can.
- RB Malcolm Brown got 11 carries on Sunday, but it was when the game was well in hand. He’s still best left on waivers.
Jaguars vs Colts
- T.J. Yeldon outplayed Chris Ivory in week 7, but with a bye in week 8 and Leonard Fournette likely to return thereafter, it’s unlikely to amount to much.
- Rookie WR Dede WestBrook is slated to return in week 9. The Jags haven’t been able to get much from Marqise Lee or Allen Hurns on a regular basis, so Westbrook could be in line for immediate targets. Pick him up if you need WR depth.
- RB Marlon Mack out snapped Frank Gore 33 to 23 in this one and should continue to see his role expand in the Colts Offense. He needs to be rostered in any leagues larger than 10 teams.
Jets vs Dolphins
- Josh McCown has put together a couple of good games in a row and sits as the no.12 QB on the season in front of guys like Jameis Winston and Matthew Stafford. He’s worth streaming in plus matchups.
- With the success of McCown, the Jets can support 3 pass catchers in Jermaine Kearse, Robbie Anderson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins. All 3 should be owned in 12 team or larger leagues.
- DeVante Parker missed practice on Monday and is looking pretty questionable for a Thursday night game. Kenny Stills is a safe start against Baltimore if Parker sits.
- Matt Moore is a better QB than Cutler, it’s more obvious. The Dolphins will roll with him on Thursday barring some miracle or nightmare, depending on how you feel about Cutler.
Panthers vs Bears
- Cam Newton stunk the place up on Sunday, but he faces a Tampa defense that has been the cure for ailing QBs all season. Fire him up.
- Christian McCaffrey is the Panthers’ no.1 option in the passing game. He’s been largely underwhelming this season, but his arrow is pointing up.
- It’s amazing that the Bears threw for under 110 yards, rushed for less than 75 yards and still won the game. It’s a testament to their improving defense. Mitch Trubisky is a game manager right now, making it almost impossible to start anyone other than Jordan Howard or Tarik Cohen.
Ravens vs Vikings
- With Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin and Breshad Perriman all on the shelf this past Sunday, WR Chris Moore led the Ravens in targets(8) and caught a TD. If they continue to sit against Miami, Moore makes for a deep league flex.
- Buck Allen is still the back to own in Baltimore, even with Alex Collins receiving the bulk of carries. Allen’s usefulness in the passing game keeps him relevant in every contest.
- I still don’t believe in Latavius Murray, but he should be viable in a matchup with the Browns this week, as will Jerick McKinnon.
Saints vs Packers
- Ted Ginn has finally come alive in the Saints offense, as Willie Snead continues to deal with an injury. He’s still boom or bust, but Ginn is a better flex than many this week.
- Ouch, Ty Montgomery got left in the dust by Aaron Jones against the Saints logging only 7 snaps to Jones’ 44. That being said, I think he’s a hold, as QB Brett Hundley is a garbage fire, and only a strong running game will put it out. Look for Montgomery to get more involved.
- I thought we’d see a downgrade in Green Bay pass production, but 87 yards on the day with no pass catcher gaining more than 17 yards is worst case scenario material. You can’t start a single one this week versus Detroit.
Titans vs Browns
- Derrick Henry received 13 carries to DeMarco Murray‘s 18, but he couldn’t get anything going against a Browns run defense that has been respectable all season. Don’t expect him to do much against Baltimore in week 9.
- Time to scoop Corey Davis up in your leagues. The Titans haven’t had much production behind Rishard Matthews at the receiver position, leaving the door open for a Davis return to fantasy relevance.
- The Browns are so inept at the QB position that Isaiah Crowell remains useful in fantasy as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Only Crowell, Duke Johnson, and TE David Njoku are worth using in any given week at this point in time.
Cowboys vs 49ers
- Ezekiel Elliott gets another week in versus the Redskins this week, but all bets are off after that, as his hearing is held on the following Monday. If the suspension goes through, we won’t see him again until week 15. I’m still holding onto Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris where possible.
- With the 49ers at a major deficit most of the time against Dallas, the running game and short passing game were of little success. Expect a similar storyline against the Eagles this week.
Bengals vs Steelers
- The Bengals abandoned the running game after the first half on Sunday, leaving Joe Mixon with 7 carries on the entire day. Expect the entire Bengals offense to get a significant boost this week against the lowly Colts.
- Don’t dig too deep into Brandon LaFell‘s success in this one. Yes, he scored a TD but has yet to top 35 yards in a single game this season.
- Martavis Bryant‘s public discontent may garner a suspension from the team, but you shouldn’t have him in your lineups anyway. I hate to say it, but he’s droppable if you need the space.
- JuJu Smith-Schuster continues to thrive with what little action he gets. His arrow continues to point up in Pittsburgh,
Broncos vs Chargers
- The Broncos are officially in a slump now after getting shut out by a mediocre Chargers team, and things don’t look to get any better this week against the Chiefs. Start your Broncos skill players with caution.
- A.J. Derby led the Broncos in targets(7) as a safety blanket to the oft under duress Trevor Siemian. He’ll probably be of use in PPR leagues again this week.
- RB Austin Ekeler keeps showing up more and more in Chargers box scores. He’s a speculative pickup in deep PPR leagues and could achieve stand alone value before too long.
Seahawks vs Giants
- Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy had the same number of carries(11) and almost identical yards(36 to 34) on Sunday. Rawls did fumble, so maybe he’ll play second fiddle this week, but that’s just a guess. This is a true timeshare.
- Tyler Lockett was second in targets(7) behind Doug Baldwin this week. He didn’t do much with them, but Lockett could see a good share of the targets this week again as the slot guy against Texans team that defends the outside pretty well.
- As suspected, Evan Engram is the no.1 as long as Sterling Shepard is out and maybe even then. Shepard is scheduled to return after the week 8 bye though, so pick up him if he’s been dropped.
- Orleans Darkwa can’t catch a break, as he saw fewer snaps than Wayne Gallman after carrying the load in the previous week’s win against the Broncos. Neither player makes for a great option in week 9 versus the Rams.
Falcons vs Patriots
- The reeling Falcons keyed in on Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu after falling to a 17 – 0 deficit on Sunday night in a “revenge” game versus the Patriots. They face the Jets this week, who are playing arguably just as well or better than the Pats on defense. Sanu should be owned and started in PPR formats.
- Dion Lewis is the closest thing to a lead back the Patriots have right now. He’s the safest start of the lot against the Chargers this week. The lack of use of Mike Gillislee in the passing game makes him the lowest floor player of the RB corps currently. He’s highly TD dependent.
Eagles vs Redskins
- Rob Kelley is fat and ineffective in fantasy. He’s by no means a hold in 12 team or smaller leagues.
- The bottom has fallen out from Terrelle Pryor‘s fantasy prospect with Josh Doctson starting over him in the X position. He’s droppable. Doctson needs to be owned in most formats.
- Wendell Smallwood saw 8 carries to LaGarrette Blount‘s 14 on Monday night, but ceded some targets to Corey Clement. Smallwood is a flex flyer at best most weeks but will be a legit play this Sunday against the 49ers.
- Nelson Agholor is doing the most with his targets these days and should be owned in all formats with Carson Wentz playing at an elite level.

Great work as always, Trashman. Proof that a B.A. in Waste Management is a very respectable degree.
what do I do with Jordy Nelson?
You might be able to trade him for a relatively valued player at a different position. If not, hope tight and hope Rodgers is back for playoffs.
Try to trade him
I am going to go out on a limb here and say unless someone gives you reasonable value which I doubt will happen I say hang onto him for a few weeks. Hundley is a so cal boy who rarely saw rain in his high school or college career. So I am throwing out last weeks game and he will now have a couple weeks to practice and gel with an arsenal of weapons! I don’t know who they play next but if it is a average to not so good defense and it is decent weather and he still stinks up the joint… then you can hit the panic button.
Would you try to trade Jordy for like a Freeman or Fitzgerald?
Or like Hogan?
NOT Fitzgerald. He is part of the same dumpster fire as Jordy with Gabbert or Stanton at the helm. If you can get Freeman or Hogan I would strongly consider. Just make sure to milk the owner for all they got and have them throw in their 3rd rb or something if you can get it.
Record 5-2
Standard Scoring 12 man league
QB: Russell Wilson
RB: Doug Martin, Alvin Kamara, Buck Allen, Thomas Rawls
WR: Mike Evans, Micheal Thomas, Doug Baldwin, Keenan Allen, Josh Doctson, JuJu Smith Schuster
TE: Travis Kelce
Would you trade Doug Martin, Micheal Thomas and Buck Allen for Leveon Bell and Corey Davis given My current roster?
I would probably do that as you are awfully stacked at WR. A better deal, if you can swing it, would be trying to get him to agree on Evans, Kamara, and Buck for Leveon and Davis. Your trade partner might view Evans as much more valuable than Thomas when they are actually quite even. That would then leave you with Martin and Bell at RB.
Just do Martin and either Evans or Thomas for Bell. You don’t need Davis and you can’t afford giving up two rbs.
Someone in my league is looking for a TE, I have Gronk and Brate and I think I need a WR.
Would you trade Brate for Hogan, Cooper, Benjamin or D. Jax.
Or take one of his RBs: Anderson, Hyde, Stewart, Gurley
WR: Dez, Garcon, Parker, Martavis, Shephard and Davis
RBs: Freeman, Howard, Mixon, Montgomery,
TE: Brate, Gronk
Brate for Hogan would put you in a solid spot at WR. I’m not too much of a fan of the other 3 wideouts.
Brate for Hogan would be my preferred from those four. The next three are all about the same for me, it’s personal preference at that point if you didn’t want Hogan.
I don’t know if I want any of those RBs (except for Gurley) at the moment, but there’s no way you could pull off Brate for Gurley.
I am so exhausted with CJ Anderson. With Golden Tate out a couple of weeks How about a trade of Anderson for Marvin Jones?
How about go get Golladay off waivers if he is available and hold onto cj???
Like Kwillee said, picking up Golladay and keeping CJA would be your best move. Don’t go buying high on Jones.
I am 6-1 currently and just lost Carson Palmer, the rest of my team(12-team 0.5 PPR):
RB: Zeke, Fournette, Hyde, Tevin Coleman, JStew, Mcfadden
WR: Antonio Brown, Davante Adams, DJax, Fuller, Woods
TE: Kittle
I was going to consider offering Coleman to the Alex Smith owner (he has Russell Wilson and is 2-5) or something to the Wentz/Matt Ryan owner
I was also considering offering Fuller or DJax for Hunter Henry (he has Rudolph and is 2-5)
Are these good trades to offer? McCown, Siemian, Moore, and Brissett are the best QBs on the WW
You might be able to get Ryan for Coleman, especially after that game on Sunday. The other 3 QBs you will probably have to pay up for considering how they are performing. Don’t be too afraid of going with McCown especially with him playing the Falcons this week.
If you can get Henry for either of those guys do it.
I’m 2-5 in a 10-man standard with two WRs
QBs: Mariota (targeting McCown waivers)
RBs: Mixon, Anderson, Coleman, Kamara, Ajayi, Martin, Henry, Buck Allen
WRs: M Thomas, Evans, K Allen, Hilton
TE: Brate
I feel like now is the time to really consolidate for a big-name QB or RB. Which WR and RBs are most ideal to trade? I’m thinking K Allen and any RB except Ajayi can be moved if I’m targetting someone like McCoy, Gurley or Howard.
i’d ship anderson if i could
Would you drop Martavis Bryant for Corey Davis at this point? Such a frustrating situation with Bryant!!
yes
For sure you drop him for Davis
Who do you want going forward Wentz or Deshaun Watson? I have both and looking for an upgrade at WR and RB.. was thinking of offering one of them in a package with like Alshon and Jerrick Mckinnon in Exchange for Cam Newton with Either Landry or Dez and either Mel Gordon or Jord Howard Or i could offer one with Alshon for cooks and Golden Tate (stash)
So you also want Cam to use as a backup? I’d pretty much never play Cam if I had Wentz or Watson, unless the matchup screamed at me to play Cam. IMO, I don’t think there’s a wrong decision as both are playing at extremely high levels. The bonus with Watson is you get rushing yards and rush TDs, somewhat offset by Wentz’s throwing volume.
Turning a bench asset into a weekly must-play RB asset like Gordon or Howard is amazing ROI. I don’t think you need Cam.
Hey Guys,
Thanks always for the help – love this site!
Wanted to get your thoughts on a potential trade.
Full point PPR league, 10 yard/point rushing and receiving, 10 team.
At RB I have McCoy, Freeman, Abdullah, and Latavius Murray.
At WR I have Baldwin, Jeffrey, John Brown, and D. Parker
I was offered Freeman for Julio and Blount.
Julio’s lack of TD’s and big yard games scare me, but my WR’s are so weak in a full point PPR that the upside of Julio is greater than the downgrade from Freeman to Blount/Abdullah/Murrah, right?
Would love your thoughts.
Thanks again!
Not a RW guru, but I have a feeling that Julio gets a ton of volume down the stretch (doesn’t matter that he’s banged up, he’s perpetually banged up) in a division that is wide open currently.
You still have McCoy for double-duty in getting some PPR bonus. I would rather see a pass-catching RB in the package rather than Blount. He has okay volume, but doesn’t catch the ball in an offense that throws a ton (6th-most).
It’s close either way.
Thanks Jonathan!
I have that offer standing at the moment so am trying to leverage it to see what else is out there.
What I’m pushing for is Freeman and Jeffrey for Hopkins and and K. Allen.
12 team ppr… Need a wr and pretty flush with rb. Zeke owner wants to trade me shepherd or Jeffrey but wants McCaffery in return.
I also have Gordon, Buck Allen, AP, and both McFadden and Morris. I’m going to try to flip Morris or McFadden but what are your thoughts?
wouldn’t do it for jeffery. shepard is still a wait and see situation. i’d offer allen for jeffery
Thoughts for this trade guys!!!
Darth Deba
5-2
16 team standard
I have no starting running backs now
I’m offered
Corey Davis and CJ ANDERSON
For
Julio Jones and Ty Montgomery.
I still have Crabtree as my WR1.
Thanks
No way. You are not getting enough return for Jones
14 team standard, need to pick 2 starters between Alshon Jeffery, Pierre Garcon, and Dion Lewis…
After listening to the podcasts, I have created a filthy monster of a receiving Corp. However I can only start 2 plus a flex and am wondering should I consolidate? Or roll with depth?
12 team standard
QB: Rivers/Big Ben
RB: Gurley, Howard, TColeman, Kamara
Wr: Cooks, M Thomas, K Allen, D Baldwin
TE: ASJ
I have a couple offers in mind, what route do you guys think I should pursue?
Rivers/Allen for Brees?
Allen/Baldwin for a AJ Green or Mike Evans?
Howard/Allen or Baldwin for Leveon bell?
Not sure if I’d be overpaying in these deals or not.
I also have Doctson and J Ross
Misplayed my byeweeks due to trades and need a RB play for this week in place of Gurley. Gotta pick one of: Forte, Crowell, Jalen Richard or Gillislee? (Forte currently on roster, the rest are in waivers)
Maybe the Trashman might have some insight in his weekly garbage grab for you…. I just threw up my lunch after reading that list.
Someone offered me Agholor for Will Fuller. Should I do this?
PPR
Seems like a wash to me
In a 10 team league and on the waiver both Doctson and Golladay are available. Should I drop someone like Mar Lee for one? I’ve got K Allen, Tyr Hill, D Jackson, Corey Davis, and M Lee.
Yes drop Lee for Doctson
Thanks my dude. That was my initial though, but wanted to bounce ioff off some heads of the RW Nation!
Would you trade Jordan Howard and Fuller for Lamar Miller and Landry PPR
I wouldnt. Miller isnt a must start every week and Landry stock has falling with Moore taking over. Dont get sucked into Matt Moore’s layer.
Nooooooooooo!!!
Hey just joined RosterWatch! Should I trade Kirk Cousins for (Doug Martin or Mark Ingram)? I have Carson Wentz and will be starting him each week pretty much regardless. Also, should I trade Marshawn Lynch for Ty Montgomery? Do you think he’ll be seeing more touches soon? or is Aaron Jones taking over completely?
Yes if you need and can get Martin or Ingram I would do it. As for Lynch and Ty take two aspirin and check back later. Someone else should have chimed in by then.
I would trade cousins for ingram. Not sure about martin. I think you can get better than the muscle hamster.
I would stay away from Green Bays backs. Right now it looks like Jones job to lose. I dont think he fully takes over but he will make Montgomery’s workload be a question just about every week.
In one of my PPR leagues I traded Jordy for Davante Adams? Good trade?
Blah…..
I want nothing to do with Green Bay wideouts right now
Hey RW experts, need some bye week help! I need two of these guys for two flex positions: Witten, Kearse, C.J Anderson, JuJu, Dion Lewis. Thanks so much!
I would go Anderson and Lewis
Oh yeah, it’s a 1pt PPR league. Thanks again!
1pt PPR dynasty league….would you drop Snead for Paul Richardson?
Wr on roster: Cooper Jeffery Garcon Amendola Ross
I dont think either have huge upside moving forward in your dynasty so this move would be ok.
