Week 5 vs. Panthers Could Be Coming Out Party for Mark Ingram
Week 5 vs. Panthers Could Be Coming Out Party for Mark Ingram
Alex Dunlap, Rosterwatch.com
Only 3 RBs through the entire 2010 season, and though 4 weeks of 2011, have received more than 13 carries and not racked up a double-digit fantasy performance when facing the Carolina Panthers. Those three players were an ailing Steven Jackson and backups Chester Taylor and Cadillac Williams.
Saints Rookie RB Mark Ingram has been somewhat disappointing to fantasy owners production-wise, but his situation is encouraging, having cemented a seemingly steady role at the goal line and on running downs. In his first 4 games, he has gotten 13, 14, 9 and 17 carries respectively; never for more than 55 yards. His one touchdown came in Week 3 vs. the Texans in which he only had 9 carries.
The Panthers are currently the second-worst Run Defense in the National Football League.
If Mark Ingram puts up a 4-6 point stinker against a crappy division foe against the run, then its time to start worrying. Especially if he gets the carries.
You don’t want to end up in the same club as an injured Steven Jackson, Chester Taylor and Cadillac Williams. Not even the Trashman would hang out at that club.
