Garbage Grab: Week 7

Garbage Grab: Week 7

It’s NFL week 7, and the garbage needs to be taken out…and replaced with more garbage. Here are your dumpster darlings for the upcoming fantasy week:

Jarret Boykin, WR Green Bay Packers:  The most obvious of the grab picks this week is also probably the least-known. Boykin springs onto the scene in the wake of injuries to Randall Cobb and James Jones in week 6. The second-year receiver had 5 catches and 27 yards to his name before entering the game last week and bringing in one pass for over 40 yards. He’ll be the number 2 behind Jordy Nelson this week and could see extra targets due to Nelson being covered by “shutdown” corner Joe Haden of the Browns.

Tim Wright, TE Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Coming off of a 7 catch, 91-yard effort against the Eagles, Wright is an instant TE2 with Mike Glennon at QB. I have to drop some knowledge on you. In almost any situation where an inexperienced QB is thrust into the starting spot, his tight end will be his fail-safe and often favorite target. Not to mention that Schiano loves Wright as his former Rutgers TE and wants Glennon to feed him. New QB = legit TE fantasy play. There is no exception in this case.

Chris Ogbonnaya, RB Cleveland Browns:  Ogbonnaya isn’t much of a runner, but he’s a decent pass catcher, and Brandon Weeden peppered him with 12 targets against Green Bay. Weeden isn’t that good and relies on check-downs and screens more than any QB should, so while that isn’t great for Josh Gordon owners, it makes Ogbonnaya a reasonable bye-week fill in.

Lance Kendricks, TE St. Louis Rams:  I suppose since Chris Givens and Tavon Austin aren’t going to catch any balls in St. Louis, somebody needs to. Normally a second TE like Kendricks would be utilized almost exclusively for blocking, but he’s actually become a reliable target for QB Sam Bradford. Against a Panthers defense that is tough against the run, expect Kendricks to get a handful of looks this week–perhaps in the end-zone.

Brian Quick, WR St. Louis Rams:  Speaking of Rams, Quick is inching little by little into fantasy relevancy. The sizeable Quick has developed slowly in the NFL, but with the lackluster receiver play from elsewhere on the team, he could be forced into the limelight sooner than later. He won’t get a ton of targets, but Bradford will look for him again in the red-zone, as he did last week on a 6 yard TD.

Phillip Tanner, RB Dallas Cowboys: Joseph Randle is the big pickup this week in Dallas with DeMarco Murray sidelined, but Tanner is a good bet to see increased playing time, as he’s a much better blocker than Randle. Romo needs all the protection he can get, so it makes sense that Tanner would see the field often in Sunday’s match-up with Philly. If Randle is gone in your league and you need a RB fill-in, there are worse choices than Tanner.

Jericho Cotchery, WR Pittsburgh Steelers:  Cotchery has quietly produced in Pittsburgh thus far and is coming off a 100 yard, 1 TD Week 4 before blanking in week 6. Set to face a Baltimore team that will be working to contain Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders, Cotchery could be the one that gets away for a big play in Week 7.

Mike Tolbert, RB Carolina Panthers:  Forget about Jonathan Stewart, Tolbert is the RB that I’m worried about for DeAngelo Williams. He is touchdown vulture of the first degree, and will be in line for at least a handful of carries and any goal line work against a weak Rams run defense. I guarantee a touchdown.

Jordan Reed, TE Washington Redskins:  Fred Davis is a relic in Washington due to the upstart Reed who has all the skills needed to succeed for the Redskins. He’ll have a tough match-up against the Bears this week, but there are few solid options in D.C., and RGIII has been struggling under center as of late. It would be a shrewd move to secure his new safety blanket.
