Dallas Cowboys
From a fantasy perspective, not much should change for Cowboys offensive players, as only two players out of their nine draft picks were not on defense. Of those two, the only skill player is 5th round pick WR Devin Street, and he lacks the speed to really push Terrance Williams for playing time.
New York Giants
Rueben Randle‘s fantasy outlook looked pretty tasty after the departure of Hakeem Nicks to Indy, until the Giants took WR Odell Beckham Jr. with their first pick. This moved confirmed what we were already starting to think – that the team doesn’t think Randle has what it takes to be the No.2 in NY across from Victor Cruz.
David Wilson and Rashad Jennings also have cause to look over their shoulders, as 2013’s leading college rusher RB Andre Williams is going to make a claim for the lead back in NY. Wilson is already on thin ice coming off of a neck injury and being plagued with ball protection and pass protection woes. His role in this crowded backfield is tenuous at best. Jennings most resembles Williams’ power running style though, so he’s probably the guy that could be most affected by the rookie’s presence, even though he’s being touted as the feature back as of now. I shouldn’t even have to mention Peyton Hillis here.
Philadelphia Eagles
With the addition of fleet footed WR Jordan Matthews to the fold in Philly, Chip Kelly has Matthews slated to play the slot. I have a feeling he’s going to hold onto it. He’s of Jerry Rice bloodlines- the kind of football DNA that’s hard to keep at bay.
Riley Cooper is already probably going to lose looks to Zach Ertz and Darren Sproles this season, and the addition of Matthews and potentially WR Josh Huff are only going to make things more complicated. Also, he no longer has DeSean Jackson to take the brunt of defensive attention.
Washington Redskins
One would think Roy Helu would be the most likely player to be affected by the signing of RB Lache Seastrunk to the ‘Skins, but coach Gruden insists that he plans on using the rookie back to spell Alfred Morris. Seastrunk is a hopeless pass catcher, so he wouldn’t be useful on third downs. Already coming off a down year, Morris better hope the newly invigorated passing game in Washington opens up the field for him.
