Best and Worst 2021 Free Agency Landing Spots for Fantasy Football

During the RosterWatch Podcast (#337), Alex Dunlap and The Trashman break down the Fantasy Football impact of the latest free agent signings in the NFL and how it changes Version 2.0 of the best ball cheat sheet. Who came out as a winner, and who is a stinking loser for the upcoming season?  The guys answer all of those questions and preview rookie WR prospect Amon-Ra St.Brown as well. Let’s get into it.

With the departure of Jamaal Williams in Green Bay, Alex is more confident now in Aaron Jones than he was before.  He doesn’t see AJ Dillon as a threat to eat into catches in the offense and this could be an upgrade for Aaron Jones in PPR leagues.  The only downfall Trashman sees in Aaron Jones is that Aaron Rodgers loves throwing the ball to Davante Adams in the redzone, robbing Jones of potential goal line touchdowns. Sticking with the RBs, one of the worst free agency moves for fantasy owners was when the Raiders signed RB Kenyan Drake.  Alex doesn’t understand the move and is confused with the direction the Raiders offense is moving in.  Trashman is more likely to take a chance on a guy like Travis Etienne than invest in either Raiders RB.

We saw a lot of WRs change teams this off-season and Alex loves the change for Kenny Golladay.  He thinks the Giants were one of the few teams who needed an alpha wideout and they jumped on the opportunity.  Even though the Giants did not throw the ball down field much last season, Alex thinks that will change in 2021 and Daniel Jones will develop a connection with new pass catcher Golladay.  Don’t fret Laviska Shenault dynasty owners, Trashman thinks the singing of Marvin Jones in Jacksonville is more of a hit to DJ Chark‘s fantasy value than Shenault’s.  He thinks that Chark is no longer the WR1 in that offense.  With JuJu Smith-Schuster returning to the Steelers, Alex sees no change in the Steelers offense which is a receiving offense and like all 3 WRs for Fantasy.  Unfortunately this year, you will not be getting a discount on second-year wideout Chase Claypool and will have to pay the premium in drafts to scoop him up.

At the tight end position, only one move stands out: the Patriots ruining not one but TWO player’s fantasy values.  Alex can’t believe the Patriots signed both Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry, hurting both of their fantasy outlooks for 2021.  Yes, the Patriots were successful with two tight ends when they had Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski but that was with peak Tom Brady and not declining Cam Newton.

Moving on to the NFL Draft, this is another loaded WR talent pool.  The guys break down USC WR Amon-Ra St.Brown’s outlook in this podcast.  They scout him as not a super fast WR but is quick out of his breaks and is very good in the red zone.  A couple of NFL comps from the guys are JuJu Smith-Schuster and Golden Tate.  For Alex, St.Brown falls in around the tier with guys like Rondale Moore and Rashod Bateman.  Trashman thinks Bateman comps best with guys like Allen Robinson & Robert Woods.
