Cody Hoffman WR, Brigham Young University
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 210 lbs
40 yard dash: 4.56 (estimated)
Scouting Notes:
The most accomplished receiver in BYU history, Hoffman has excellent hands, as evidenced by his 100-catch junior season. After electing to return to BYU for his senior season along with then-fellow-underclassmen teammate Kyle Van Noy, Hoffman’s play left a little to be desired in 2013, complete with an injury and a violation of team rules leading to a one-game suspension.
The intermediate and short game are his specialty, but Hoffman’s lack of burst in the open field designates him as a possession guy almost exclusively. Thankfully, his impressive size still gives him a leg up on most defenders because of his physicality through separation, and he also has no fear of going across the field, which is a boon to any quarterback. Hoffman lights up the end zone as well. He led all FBS in career touchdowns coming into the 2013 season.
Fantasy Outlook:
A player with good work ethic and amiable character, Hoffman should have no trouble transitioning to the NFL. From a fantasy perspective, his lack of big play ability may make him more valuable in reality than on your roster. He could end up being a hot commodity in PPR leagues, though, depending on the situation he falls to.
