Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz is a young and talented fantasy football prospect. We detailed all of his exploits in this rookie fantasy spotlight, where we were also the first to suggest he will play snaps at wide receiver. Chip Kelly drafted this familiar foe with clear intent.

Today, we have confirmed via Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting– who is in attendance at Eagles Camp, that Ertz is indeed lining up at wide receiver. In addition to tight end, he is getting reps in the slot, at flanker, and at split-end.

Galko continued to say that Ertz is running great routes, showing blocking ability, and looking overall like the best tight end on the team. Welcomed news for fantasy players concerned about the potential logjam at tight end in Philly.

Jeremy Maclin’s season-ending injury gives way to Ertz’s fantasy potential in 2013. While we’ve recommended Riley Cooper as a waiver play more than most– he’s obviously not the answer and now he has a whole new ordeal to deal with with recent racial slurs.

We like Ertz as a late-round safety valve in upcoming Fantasy Football Drafts. The stars are aligning for Ertz to have a shot at finishing as a Top-12 Fantasy Tight End. He should still be drafted behind the likes of Martellus Bennett and Jared Cook, but we recommend him over fliers such as Tyler Eifert, Rob Housler, and perhaps even Dustin Keller.
