Garbage Grab: Good Fantasy Players Who Aren’t Being Drafted

If I could have my own way, fantasy benches would be ten to fifteen players deep.

But alas that is not the case in most fantasy leagues. There are only about six bench slots in most leagues, and the point is to maximize your potential in each given spot. That being said, I’ve noticed quite a few players who are being overlooked for reasons unbeknownst to me.These are some of the best players that aren’t being drafted in 12-team, 16-round leagues based on Average Draft Position from fantasypros.com.

Jerricho Cotchery WR, Panthers: Cotchery has an outside chance to lead the Panthers in receptions this season. Kelvin Benjamin is a big red zone threat, but he’s not a possession receiver. Cotchery has possession receiver prowess, and he’s a reliable target in the end zone. He should be drafted.

C.J. Fiedorowicz TE, Texans: If there’s one thing we know about a Bill O’Brien offense, it’s that he utilizes his tight ends a lot. Fiedorowicz looks to play the in-line end to Garrett Graham’s move end in Houston’s offense, a role that was made famous by Rob Gronkowski on O’Brien’s former team. I don’t know of a TE2 with more upside coming into the season outside of Travis Kelce in Kansas City.

Dwayne Allen TE, Colts: If Allen hadn’t gotten hurt last season, he wouldn’t be on this list. He is an athletic specimen, and the Colts are implementing a two tight end set this season. He’ll have a better season than Coby Fleener, I assure you.

Malcolm Floyd WR, Chargers: Floyd is another player who is suffering from the after effects of a season lost to injury. Because of his ability to get deep, Floyd doesn’t need a ton of targets to go big, and the fact that he’s been the MVP of the Chargers mini-camp and OTA’s shows that he’s healed up nicely. There isn’t a better value pick out of San Diego.

Rod Streater WR, Raiders: Streater came a little over 100 yds short of a 1,000 yd season in 2013. The one constant on a team that personified inconsistency, Streater comes into 2014 with a quarterback situation that lends to his possession receiver persona. Matt Schaub is a glorified game manager, and I see him getting bailed out by Streater time and time again this year. Don’t be scared off by this unsexy pick.

Lance Dunbar RB, Cowboys: The Cowboys have already been pretty vocal about their plans to involve Dunbar heavily in their offensive scheme, and I’m inclined to believe them. New Dallas OC Scott Linehan turned Joique Bell into a fantasy stud as the second back in Detroit, so I don’t see why he couldn’t do the same with a talented player like Dunbar. Don’t be late to the party.

Harry Douglas WR, Falcons: There is going to be a gaping Tony Gonzalez shaped hole in the Atlanta offense that can’t be filled by TE Levine Toilolo. That’s why the Falcons are going to stay in a three wide base, of which Douglas will be the third option. There’s real value to be had here.

Tyler Eifert TE, Bengals: One man’s injury is another man’s opportunity, and Marvin Jones’ multiple-game absence to start the year is going to send more targets Eifert’s way. It might just be the jump-start that could propel him past Jermaine Gresham once and for all.
