Garbage Grab: Week 6
Garbage Grab: Week 6
Dorian “The Trashman” Colbert, Rosterwatch.com
It’s week 6, and bye-weeks are well under way. Here are this week’s filth fantasy fliers to get you through the week:
Ace Sanders WR, Jacksonville Jaguars: Well, if there is one week that Sanders has a chance of breaking out, it is this one where the Jags will have to go up against the prolific Broncos offense on the road. The return of Justin Blackmon to the fold has set Sanders down a peg, but Denver will be set on diminishing Blackmon’s role– not Sanders’. There will be plenty of garbage-time targets to go around as Chad Henne attempts to take on what everyone fully expects to be an insurmountable lead by the Broncos.
Roy Helu Jr. RB, Washington Redskins: Helu would be a starter on most teams, but Alfred Morris commands that position in Washington. That same Morris is slated to play this week, but he will do it with bruised ribs. In order to preserve Morris, The Redskins, as we now know them, would do rightly to spell him with Helu more frequently than just on third downs. If there’s a setback for Morris, Helu will see even more work.
Doug Baldwin WR, Seattle Seahawks: Baldwin led the Seahawks in yards last week, yet he is still largely unowned in fantasy leagues. In fact, he’s averaged 60 yards a week since the season’s beginning, a feat reminiscent of Nate Washington. Like Washington, Baldwin is ignored by most fantasy players, but you’d be smart to pick him up and play him. Working out of the slot, Baldwin is a prefect fit for the mostly error free play of Russell Wilson, especially against a tough Tennessee team.
Donald Brown RB, Indianapolis Colts: We all saw Brown’s flashes of talent last week against Seattle, or maybe we saw Trent Richardson’s absence. Either way, Brown will continue to see action versus the Chargers, perhaps on the goal line again.
Chad Henne QB, Jacksonville Jaguars: If Tony Romo can set personal records against the Broncos, then Henne should be able to as well. In a rain-soaked game with the Texans last season, he put up 350 yards and 4 TDs, so we know he has that type of effort in him. Denver’s defense is stout, but has been a great fantasy matchup for QBs and WRs simply because everyone has to throw to keep up. One has to imagine that the Broncos (a record near-four TD favorite) will relent at some point and put in their backups in time enough to allow Henne to pad his stats.
Brent Celek TE, Philadelphia Eagles: Celek is owned in more leagues than most Garbage Grab fodder at 30%, but has by no means been an every week player thus far. That will change for however long Nick Foles is the Eagles quarterback. Foles looks more to the tight end out of necessity, and has already shown that Celek is a favorite target. Vick may be back as early as next week though, so all bets will be off by then. He’s a lock for at least this week as most are anticipating more Nick Foles in Week 6.
Scott Chandler TE, Buffalo Bills: Thad Lewis is the new starting QB in Buffalo with E.J. Manuel out and Jeff Tuel having proven himself woefully inept. Lewis has a penchant for checking down under duress, paving the way for a Scott Chandler fantasy sighting, as the Bengals will keep Lewis under duress. So Chandler’s not just a red-zone target for the near future, and he should be treated as a viable option come Sunday even though the matchup for fantasy TEs is horrible.
