Don’t look now but Giants RB Andre Brown could be gaining ground on expected starter David Wilson. Coach Tom Coughlin lauded Brown’s efforts in pass protection during New York’s first preseason game, while criticizing Wilson’s attempts to block. This was a known issue carrying over from last season, but the fact that Wilson has yet to improve his blocking doesn’t bode well for the young man.

We’d feel much better about Brown’s chances had he not fumbled the ball in the game, a Giants running back curse, but Wilson has had troubles in that department in the past as well. Ability to protect the quarterback projects to playing time, and if Brown keeps a leg up in that area, we could see a lot of him this season. He’s shaping up to be a low-risk value pick in 2013 fantasy drafts.
