TMZ is reporting that former NFL All Pro linebacker and San Diego legend Junior Seau has died. Details of the death are still coming in, but some are speculating suicide. If this is indeed the case, it is sure to prompt even more of a probe into the growing demands of ex-NFL players and current players alike for the league’s support with post-career concussion syndrome treatment and preventative measures.
Seau had an incident in 2010 in which he drove his SUV off of a cliff after a reported domestic dispute. He, at the time, denied being suicidal and simply said he fell asleep at the wheel. Perhaps, moving forward, the league may look at these types of out-of-character displays by their alumni as warning signs.
Junior Seau is now the 8th deceased member of the 1994 Chargers Super Bowl Team. He was preceded in death by teammates:
LB David Griggs (Car Crash, 1995)
RB Rodney Culver (Plane Crash, 1996)
LB Doug Miller (Struck by lightning, 1998)
C Curtis Whitley (Overdose, 2008)
DL Chris Mims (Heart, 2008)
DL Shawn Lee (Heart, 2011)
LB Lew Bush (Heart, 2011)
RIP Junior.
