This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2018 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Chargers RB Melvin Gordon, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Chargers (Gordon’s team). You will see that the Chargers’ opponent (OPP) is the Bills in Week 2, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bills’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

AGAIN – They are not the rankings for the Chargers, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bills). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Chargers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Gordon faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 2 (the Bills). This is a great indicator for owners of Gordon and Austin Ekeler — and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

    Insane Clowney Posse. RBs: Barkley, Gordon, Mixon, Kerryon Johnson, Michel. And picked up Conner last week. I am weak at WR (JuJu, Sanders, Jones Jr, Cooks, and Miller). The bell owner is weak at RB (only has Lewis and Burkhead) but strong at WR (Allen, Evans, Fitzgerald, Crowder, Benjamin). Like to offer Conner for Allen or Evans. I’d even include Jones Jr if needed. Good trade?

      Personally I never give up an rb unless I get one in return. Take those 2 and try to get an rb like Devonta Freeman, Dalvin Cook, or any rb that has massive upside that someone might be down on.

      Tough call. No Kenneth Dixon this could be a good crack for Collins, however we don’t know what the hell that was last wk. Hopefully just a weird deal in a blowout.

      Obv, if you know it’s going to be either Fournette or Yeldon – then I’d prob just go that route. Only concern is if they end up splitting a bunch of time. However, even w/ Dixon out- that could prob happen w/ Collins too. We’d play the better matchup per the tool , check our rankings as we continue to update, and watch the news. If all things are close ,pretty tough to sit LF.

      I’d drop Dorsett for Gollady, although I’d love to own both. If you have a backup QB, DEF, or TE – Id consider dropping them first.

    Thoughts on Flexing out Collins tonight? I currently have fournette in my flex incase I have to move him, with Kamara and Thompsons in my RB slots (evans and theilen in my WR). Here are my other flex options:

    Burkhead, K, Johnson, J. Williams, josh gordon, Cobb or millertime

    PPR Format 10 TM.
    I was offered Hogan and A. Morris for Gordon, turned it down and countered with Thompson and Gordon for saquon in hopes of flipping him for a WR after. is that too much should I cancel that? Thanks for the help

      Might be a bit too much. If you get Barkley that’s fine. I like Gordon as a flex play this week BTW. Sounds like this comes down to Gordon vs Collins vs Fournette. Very tough call. W/ Dixon out some Collins love feels appropriate, but man that was weird last wk.

      Think I’m prob eliminating the TNF swindle, and waiting until Sun to decide between LF and JG. Cheers!

        Yeah, you should try to sell high on Cobb and Agholor. We’d part w/ Evans, Sanders, or Kupp in a deal for an elite RB.

        You could package two of those WR for one RB, or you could take Ajayi + WR and make a deal for a better RB. Keep working waivers every week and you will be fine if you can’t make deal. Those are crazy awesome WR!!!!

        You can drop Booker for a RB. Sproles is a solid pickup right now for Ajayi owners.

    Why did you guys take down the WR/CB matchup tool? This is one of the most important tools we could use on a weekly basis and is more relevant for WRs than the matchup tool. It would be AMAZING if you guys could update the top 50 WRs and cornerback matchups to account for all the injuries and repost it.

    We use ESPN. It’s goofy. Goff is ranked higher (16 vs 18) but Foles has a higher pt projection (21.1 vs 20.4).

      Bad idea is strong characterization! We tend to make more money on the season personally, by eliminating the TNF headaches. To your point, though. Because so many people are itching for action on Thurs Night. Sometimes, a smart strategy in the right matchup (tonight could definitely be one), is to buy in to the Thurs night late, and fade all or most of the Thursday night players / popular plays.     I’m sitting as many Thursday nighters as possible as they usually are duds in the AFC North. If I had to start in a season long i’m choosing Collins over Mixon. Also I have a Flacco feeling this year (contract year always brings out his best and he is healthy) and I think its small ball (he averaged 7.0 depth of target against Buf) so that is my reasoning with Collins and &^%$ Allen. They usually double on Green and last year that is why Boyd got that huge td to give Cin the win. A healthy John Ross is interesting but I think I’d rather start John Brown. Also Crabtree should give you modest production. Cin beat writers this morning said the defense calls a stat line of 10 catches for 100 yards a victory and will do everything to prevent 40 yard plays. This is a lot of conjecture so my choice in lineups is to avoid this game with everyone but Collins and AJ Green. I have Mixon in some spots because of Fournette but in places I got Yeldon or Lynch I am benching Mixon.

    With Goodwin now out, would you pick up Pettis to then start over Robby Anderson and/or Robert Woods? Right now I have Hilton and Anderson as starting WR and Woods as my flex. My other flex option would be Hyde, Breida, or Brandon Marshall
