RosterWatch Week 8 Matchup Tool
Welcome back.
This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.
It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.
DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.
The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2018 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.
…
INSTRUCTIONS:
To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.
Let’s say you own Bengals WR Tyler Boyd, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.
First, look down the list and find the Bengals (Boyd’s team). You will see that the Bengals’ opponent (OPP) is the Bucs in Week 8, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”
These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bucs’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.
AGAIN – They are not the rankings for the Bengals, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bucs). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Bengals, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Boyd faces our best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 8 (the Bucs). This is a great indicator for owners of Boyd and A.J. Green and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.
Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.
With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.
“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).
COLOR-CODES
(you like blue matchups best)
BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

Have a trade question. I have an offer that would bring me TY and Hooper for my Burton Tre’quan Smith. TEs get 2 PPR and 1 pp 5 yards so they carry a premium. I do have Ertz as well. My WR group is as follows. Odell, Golden, Baldwin, Tre’quan and Cortland. Thoughts?
Adding TY Hilton would be big for you, we’d do it
I have CChris Thompson as my 5th RB
Would I rather have JRichard or Mostert or either one?
I have MGordon, Kamara, Mixon, JConnor, Chubb as well
Thank you
Close call. If Thompson is healthy, we like him the most. If not- prob Richard.
Struggling with RB2 on my PPR team (Yeldon or Hyde). May avoid the whole mess by going with Mostert if Breida sits. But, which TE: McDonald vs CLE or Uzoma vs TB?
Close call prob play the matchup w/ Uzomah
.5 ppr
Would you trade Ingram for Ertz?
My TE is Jared Cook
My RBs: Gurley, Ingram , Chubb, Kerryon, Shady, Fournette, Drake
Can start 2 RB plus flex and 1 TE.
He turned down Watkins and drake for Ertz
No, might counter w/ Cook + something small for him though. Have to still like Cook, esp w/ Amari gone
I’m 5-2 and first in my league thanks to your sage musings. Stacked at RB, but a little iffy at WR and looking to bolster my bench for the final stretch. Should I pick up Jordy or Cobb or Kirk off WW (gonna drop Wentz)?
QB: Ben, Wentz
RB: Saquan, Melvin, Connor, Kerryon, Cook
WR: TY, Sanders, Gordon
TE: Njoku, Olsen
10-team, Standard League
Or Calvin Ridley?
Yeah , we’d consider dropping our backup TE and QBs for Jordy and Kirk
Trade question!
I would like a great WR 2 to load me up for the play offs
5-2. 2nd place. Highest point total – All because of all of your unbelievable advice!
My team. PPR. Play 2RB. 3WR. And 1Flex
RB Kamara. MGordon. Mixon. JConnor. CThompson. Chubb.
WR. THill. JuJuSmith-Shuster. CRidley. MarvJones. Kirk.
Possible trade partners who need RB help:
Team A could use 2 of my RBs and would start both
He has WR JulioJ. ESanders. AJeffery. THilton and TBoyd.
Who to target and who should I give up?
Connor for Sanders?
Team B is LevBell owner and could use an RB
He has DevAdams, JGordon. KCole. TGabriel. JNelson
Connor and CThompson for DevAdams?
Connor for JGordon?
Thank you
Jeez, that is a monster squad!
Make sure and listen to this WK TradeCast. It should be up soon. Like where your head is at on Julio during a bye.
That would be our target for Team A:
I’d start w/ Conner or Chubb + Ridley and see where it goes. Could live w/ Conner + Thompson or Chubb if need be. Would also consider Kamara straight up for Julio.
Team B:
Yes, we like those options. Chubb in play too.
standaed scoring-start 2 RBs, 2 Wrs, 1 Flex. Guy has week 9 bye week issue. Should I offer Sanders & Ekeler for Fournette?
My RBs-Conner/Bell, Howard, Chubb, Ekeler
WRs-Thielen, Adams, Juju, Sanders
Would rather Send Howard straight up. If not, that’s aggressive- but we can live with it
Byron/Alex/Trashman – question below may have gotten lost in the other thread:
Trequan, CGodwin, Martavis, AMiller, Sutton
(1) which is the best pickup to start for just this week? (leaning Trequan based on podcast)
(2) which is your favorite longer term stash?
Thanks!
1 – Think I’m leaning Tre’Quan as well. Check the matchup
2- Prob Tre-Quan or Martavis at the moment
Add moster and drop royce? Ppr and am a breida owner as well.
only if you plan on using him now.
Start question in standard. 4-3 and playing one of the better teams this week. Need a WR and a flex play.
Cobb, A. Miller, Martavis, Yeldon. Or should I drop one or multiple of these guys and try to pick up Djax, Goodwin, hogan, moncrief? All of them are available to bid on for Saturday morning waivers.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
if you need upside, djax, goodwin and moncrief are the plays
Would you drop Corey Clement to pick up Ronald Jones since Peyton Barber appears to be MÍA? This is for stash purposes only.
.5 PPR. THANKS!
i don’t love jones’ prospects. it’s not a necessary move to me
Question: start two of these three RBs?
One point PPR:
Kamara
Conner
White
Leaning toward starting White and Conner but it feels dirty sitting Kamara.
Microphone check. ; )
boys
another tough one for you this week, full point PPR league and i need to start at least 1 RB and total of 4 players
David Johnson, Tarik Cohen, AJ Green, Tyreek Hill, JuJu, Emanuel Sanders so sit 2 but can’t be both RB’s
thanks for your help
Lone Wolf 4-3
.5 PPR starting 3 WR, no flex
Trying to fill out my 3rd spot, starting Thielen and Hilton and have to decide between starting Crabtree, Kirk or Tre’Quan Smith?
Also for the hell of it, any thoughts on which DST to start, Mia against Hou or AZ against SF?
Thanks for y’alls hard work, 3rd straight year I’m killing it in my money leagues. Keep up the good work!
1/2 pt ppr: Need to start 2 of Fuller/Gordon/John Brown. Who do I go with?
Keenan Allen is on a bye this weekend, In a standard league which one of these WRs would you start? Moncrief, TreQuan Smith, Martavius Bryant or Christian Kirk
Goff or Big Ben? Thanks
Should I start Mark Ingram or Jordan Howard??
