RosterWatch Week 9 Matchup Tool

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2018 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Rams WR Robert Woods, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Rams (Woods’ team). You will see that the Rams’ opponent (OPP) is the Saints in Week 9, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Saints’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

AGAIN – They are not the rankings for the Rams, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Saints). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Rams, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Woods faces our best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 9 (the Saints). This is a great indicator for owners of Woods (as well as Brandin Cooks) and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering either of them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

WHITE: Neutral Matchups

  1. In a 12 team .5 PPR league. Thinking about trading Sammy Watkins or Emmanuel Sanders for an RB like AP or S Michel. Think I should be targeting other RB’s?

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Trade Watkins, not Sanders. Sure those are solid RB targets. Maybe a sell high on Watkins to buy high on AP. I like that.

  2. In my view the Demaryius trade to the Texans will likely increase Keke’s targets since D is not a good or as fast as Fuller. What do you think?

Also would you drop Godwin for Keke? thanks

    RW rules!

    1. i don’t know that targets will increase for Coutee, but they might stretch the field more with him and use Thomas more underneath. I would wait and see how fitz uses godwin. he liked him a lot more than winston did.

  3. Fitz was just dropped, in my 10 team half ppr league. Would you drop ARob or Ito Smith grab him?

RB – Hunt, Lindsay, Kerryon, Yeldon, Ito
WR – AB, Evans, Kupp, Watkins, ARob

  4. Should I trade away White and Ertz for Sony and Njoku?

  5. 12 team half-PPR league (4-4)
    2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX

    QB: Big Ben, Mayfield
WRs: K. Allen, Gordon, Kupp, Kirk, Sutton
RBs: Zeke, Mixon, Kerryon, Howard, Drake
    TE: Jared Cook

Got a couple teams trying to trade with me… like any of these offers? If not, what would you counter with?

    1. AB for my Zeke

    Other team:
    QB: Mahomes
    WRs: AB, Golladay, Shepard, Crabtree
RBs: Miller, Collins, Brieda, Ito, Ekeler, Mostert, McGuire
    TE: McDonald

    2. Same team above also was offering Golladay and Ito for my Mixon and Sutton which is an obvious no, but I am curious which RB you’d offer straight up for Golladay?

    3. Another team said they’d trade me Diggs and Michel, and Clement/Godwin/Allison but I’d have to trade away KJ, Sutton and Kupp I think but based on who he is interested in what kind of offer would you make for Diggs, Evans or Michel?

    Other 3-5 team:
WRs: Diggs, Evans, E. Sanders, Godwin, Allison, C. Davis
    RBs: Carson, Michel, DJ, Clement
    TE: Njoku

    1. 1. no, 2. howard 3. i’d move sutton, howard for one of them

Just got offered a trade He wants Sanders from me and will give me Wentz. 1PPR

    My team is R Fitz, E Sanders, K Allen, K Johnson, P Lindsay, G Kittle, A Kamara, A Robinson, I Crowell, J Richard, D Cook, M Breida, R Mostert, C Sutton

    His team, C Newton, T Hill, J Jones, J White, K Drake, J Cook, A Ekeler, J Mixon, N Agholor, K Rudolph, C Wentz, D Martin, C Beasley.

I am leaning to reject it would lessen my WRs and increase my QB, (which I been steaming all year long).

    Please advise,

    M Ingram
    Dion Lewis
    Nick Chubb
    Sammy Watkins
    Stephon Diggs
