RosterWatch Week 9 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Saints WR Michael Thomas, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Saints (Thomas’ team). You will see that the Saints opponent (OPP) is the Bucs in Week 9, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bucs’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Saints, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bucs). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Saints, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Thomas faces the best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 9 in the Bucs. This is a great indicator for owners of Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn and other Saints receivers as well as those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

COLOR-CODES
(you like blue matchups best)

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

    Two Questions:

Matt Ryan and Cousins are 27 and 26 in matchup respectively, can get Brissett/Cutler in the WW to cover, at what point do the “elite players” overrule the difference in matchup strength?

Second, ppr flex: DaVante Parker (great matchup, first game back) or Lockett/Richardson? Also have Darkwa

    1. Matchup tool is more of a tie breaker for ranking so normally the elite players are still the play

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

        exactly

  2. Standard.

Getting: D. Murray (have Henry) and K. Benjimen
    Giving: Freeman

Wrs: Allen, Evans, parker and Adams
Rbs: Anderson, kamara, Collins, Mixon and Henry

    1. I would rather have freeman.

  3. Trade Hopkins JUJU and Doug Martin for
Hogan, Diggs, Chris Thompson and Travis Benjamin??

Current Wrs- Hopkins Nelson Sanders Juju Richardson Beasley
Current Rbs- Mccoy Howard Martin Burkead

    Full PPR 3wr 2rb 2flex

    1. No way

  4. Traded- m Gordon Ertz Hilton and ty hill for J graham Abdullah L miller M thomas.

    A collins, Drake, A Foreman

Solid deal. We like the move for Thomas. Sweet squad. Figure out how to repackage some of that depth now and continue upgrading starting lineup next few weeks.

  5. So, you guys have any college film or research on De’Veon Smith. I’ve heard a little of him on Sirius XM and knowing you seem to have the most college study done on these younger guys – wanted to hear your thoughts on him. What it might look like for him to do something in Miami.

It would help if he would be activated from the practice squad first — but just looking for any edge with a disgustingly thin waiver wire for RBs.

    1. There was definitely at least one article about him during the off-season.

    2. Post By Byron Lambert

I liked him the most of our group at the Sr Bowl. He was sneaky effective on all 3 downs. Def a limited athlete. Trashman’s write up on him is probably the most fair assessment. I’ve though of him as a dynasty sleeper in MIA since May, and actually was thinking he’d end up being the true handcuff to Ajayi this year.

Problem was, I got to Dolphins training camp at the end of camp- and the local observers said Smith hadn’t done shit- so I backed off a bit. I definitely think he is a name to watch, though.

      1. Thanks eyak26 and Byron – This is why RosterWatch is the best community of fantasy football players. He likely won’t amount to shit but the fact we’re talking about him and you already have grades done it epic!

        Thanks.

          you got it homie!

Hey all normally I would wait for the disgusting flex ranking to come out but my question involves the Thursday slate.
    16 team standard rec: 5-3
    I need 1rb and 1 flex from:
D Henry, Forte, Foreman, K. Drake, and Corey Davis
    Thanks

    1. I’d lean towards playing Davis and not playing Foreman. I know the match-up is good for Houston but I think he might be in the doghouse. Henry might be a decent play this week. I have him on my roster and find it hard to “guess” when he’ll be used…not a stable floor.

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

        Thanks for pitching in Freebird.

    2. Post By Byron Lambert

      Drak and Forte or Davis

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

        *Drake

  7. Bilal Powell is on free agency should I pick him up using a ww?
    Players I could drop
Rbs- a Foreman (I have Miller though). Anthony Collins, K Drake
my Wrs- m Thomas, Baldwin, Cooks (on bye) Doctson, crowder (just came up on injury report), Anderson

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

meh— who the heck is Anthony Collins btw?

      1. Post By Kwillee@hotmail.com

        LOL

  8. I need 1 Flex PPR
    Garçon
    Funchess
    Davante Adams

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

      Prob Funchess.

  9. Is David Johnson droppable yet?

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

      Yes

    2. Even if he is healthy he probably won’t play this year since the cardinals are only going to win a few more games. If you need the roster spot you can drop him

  10. Post By teddy2393@verizon.net

Russel wilson and tyreke hill for fournette… too much for fournette or fair?

    1. If I had a good backup qb I would do that trade.

      1. Post By Byron Lambert

Exactly- under any normal circumstance you automatically have to do this. RW is going bananas as we predicted from Hawks camp- he can win you your league right now, too. This depends on the rest of your roster (RBs and Flex) along with your other QB options. W/out knowing more- we’d say historically- yes – we do this deal.

  11. What are your guys thoughts on Dede Westbrook?

    1. There is always a rookie or two that no one talks about that ends up producing….but I don’t think Jacksonville will throw enough to make him worth anything.

    2. Post By Byron Lambert

      We like him, always have.

  12. What are your thoughts on trading Winston, Dez and Tevin Coleman for Wentz, Jordy and Marlon Mack? 1/2 point ppr.

  13. You don’t want anything to do with Nelson without Rodgers.

  14. I’m in a Standard 10-team league.

    QB: Watson, Wentz
RB: Fournette, Howard, McCaffrey, Stewart, McFadden
WR: Brown, Kelvin, Demaryius, Fuller V,
    TE: Rudolph (BYE), Doyle, Olsen

If Kelvin is active tomorrow, I have a deal in place for Michael Thomas where I give up Wentz and Kelvin.

Is that enough of a move up at WR to justify giving up Wentz?

  15. Keeper league Corey Davis vs Doctson?

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

      Davis

  16. Lmfao! Alex Collins Dick! Lol

    It’s a 10tm standard.. I’m feeling a little thin at rb..
my rbs- l miller a Collins Abdullah

drop one of the following? docston crowder foreman k drake or r anderson?
    Available-
Bilal, Booker, Richard, Rawls, Rod Smith, Yeldon?

    Thanks!

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

      prob Crowder or Foreman.

  17. Byron mentioned trading for Julio J for the stretch but what about dealing him for Value? Need RB help with only Mixon and Darkwa (streaming some weeks which is getting harder to do. Lost Cook). If so what value should I get in return on an RB or an RB or WR if able to get help at both? Thank you, love my PRO SHIP! Live and die with RW!!

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Yes- this works both ways. Much as we had discussed with Gordon recently. Can you get Keenan Allen or Michael Thomas + one of the RBs I talked about in the Pod? Maybe a Hyde type.

  18. Ppr (3-5)

    Getting: miller
    Giving: hilton and Mixon

Wrs: Dez, Hilton, kupp, Lockett, doctson, Golliday, M. Williams, M. Bryant, Westbrook
Rbs: Mixon, Jones, L. Murray and Drake

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Close call, would like to aim a tiny bit higher than Miller. If you do it, make sure you get Foreman. Would rather see you take Hilton + Kupp and go after Michael Thomas, or someone of that ilk. Maybe Dez + Hilton for Julio or Mike Evans.

  19. Looking to trade Ajayi and WR for a Stud RB or WR. (.5 ppr) I was going to offer Ajayi, Smith-Schuster and D Adams for AB. Probably not enough but thought I would start there. My other WR’s are M Thomas, Diggs and Crabtree, my other RB’s are Fournette, A Jones, B Allen and CJ Anderson. Should I send the offer and who would you offer out of my RB’s & WR’s for AB

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Sure, we’d send the offer but wouldn’t expect it to be taken. You should be shopping Ajayi, Smith Schuster, Diggs, and Jones.

Can you ship Ajayi and Jones plus maybe JJSS for an elite RB? Can you ship Ajayi or Jones + Diggs + JJSS for AB, JJ, or Mike Evans?

      1. Would you consider McCoy or Gordon elite? Also the guy with AB is a big Packer fan. (he is 1-7 & i’m 7-1)

        1. Yeah, those guys would probably work.

          1. I might try for Bell first!

Seems like your down on Aaron Jones, do you think he will be splitting carries down the road.

  20. Post By michael.l3wis@gmail.com

Would you trade Russell Wilson for Devonta Freeman?

Have Watson as my starter and wilson as my back up QB. RBs are leveon Bell, kareem Hunt, lamar Miller, and Doug Martin

    1. Usually, we would say yes- but what will you do with all those RBs on your bench? You will be making another team very dangerous at the same time. We generally like this deal, but you have to have plan with that depth for this to make sense. Can you go get Julio or Evans with the depth?

      1. Post By michael.l3wis@gmail.com

The person who has evans and Julio is in first and so believes they shouldnt trade. “my roster has gotten me this far” horse crap.

  21. Hey Guys-

Been offered C. Thompson or L. Miller. Don’t really like Miller.

My RB’s are suspect in A. Kamara, Ajayi, CJ Anderson, M. Mack, Duke Johnson.

Im a little better at WR in M. Evans, A. Thielen, K. Allen, B. Cooks.

He wants Thielen or Cooks for C. Thompson.

    Worth it in my situation?

    Thanks. Radio Gold.

    1. Sorry, left off L. Fitzgerald. who i am currently starting in flex this week over cj and m. mack.

Saw on the matchup sheet that L. miller is in a nice spot this week, but he hasn’t sniffed 100 yards yet this season.

    2. don’t think it really improves your starting lineup. it’s just adds another difficult decision to make on sundays. i would look to consolidate, pair a couple of your middling upside players to get a premier runner.

  22. Need to drop one to pick up DMC

Breida, Cohen, Foreman, D Lewis, Abdullah, or Sneed

12 team PPR lots of bonuses and you pay cash for waivers only once a week.

Team is built around Gronk and Ertz with Russell as my QB. Starting WR’s are Alshon and K Allen

    1. i’d drop breida unless you’re a hyde owner

      1. Thanks bro i don’t own him.

  23. I somehow ended up with 3 TE’s on my team, which has never happened before. I have ASJ, Jack Doyle and Jordon Reed. Cooper Kupp is also in the Waiver Wire right now. Am I dropping any of these guys for Kupp? Or am I trying to trade them? Not really sure what to do or if I need to target someone

    1. Now that Im thinking about it, I would love to be able to make a package like this for a freeman. What would you put together with these players for freeman? ASJ, Doyle, Reed, Marlon Mack, Agholor, Funchess (maybe crabtree). Just looking for an appealing package to an owner with hardly any depth at WR or TE and all, (his TE is witten).

      1. ^ also can include mixon

        1. it would probably take funchess and asj or reed.

          1. Post By Chris Smith

I feel he won’t accept unless I include some type of RB, since my RB game is very strong. Just looking to add hell of some value to my starting roster.

  24. Post By kenru84@optonline.net

Can you guys put up that quarterback schedule tool up again! I wanted to make a trade for a QB with a good second half/playoff schedule. Thanks

    1. that was a preseason tool, some of the matchups and personnel have changed, gotten injured, etc. Maybe once we get past the trade deadline, we can make a new one.

  25. tyrod taylor or winston

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

Close decision for me. Game script probably means Jameis is throwing a lot, which isn’t necessarily the best idea for a QB who’s shown to be mistake-prone. Conservative me says Tyrod. Aggressive me says Jameis.

  26. Post By rudymazzocca@yahoo.com

PPR, would you trade away evans and cj anderson to get back Antonio Brown? my other WR are Diggs, M. Thomas, Allen, Kupp. My RB are D. Martin, Lynch, A. Morris, T. Riddick, D Foreman.
Was thinking if I get brown I can then take either diggs or allen and trading one for an RB.

    Thanks

    1. I would do it if you are confident you can trade for a RB afterwards. If you can not pull off the second deal you will be super thin at RB

    2. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

Yeah, as long as you’re sure you can pick up another serviceable RB. Getting Brown for CJA is a no-brainer, for me.

  27. Post By paulbwaiter@gmail.com

Is it safe to drop David Johnson? I can add Danny Woodhead into my IR spot instead. PPR league. 4-4 fighting to stay in playoff spot.

    1. Yes you can drop him

  28. Who would be your top 3 rbs to pickup on free agency?

Booker, J Richard, Rawls, Rod Smith, Yeldon?

    1. Smith, Rawls, Booker. Smith because is an unknown and could take over the job with Zeke out. The other two are ranked because I had to. I want nothing to do with any of them. Unless you league is a deep one these guys should not be on a roster.

  29. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

    Booker, Richard, Yeldon.

Yeldon’s upside is through the roof if Fournette goes down, but that’s about it. Booker and Richard at least have some volume to throw around.

  30. ASJ or Doyle this week. Standard. Thanks

  31. Post By sally_espejo@sbcglobal.net

PPR , lost Watson. Should I pick up Goff, Mariotta or Borttles. Have big Ben on bye

  32. Post By jshoemaker3280@gmail.com

Should I trade Hogan for Corey Davis? I’m 6-2 and other starting wr are Evans and tyreek, Davis would be my flex

  33. 6-2 2nd place Thank you!
    Play 1 QB 3 WR 2 RB 1 flex 1 TE PPR
    Winston
THill, GTate, Wfuller, SShepard, S Diggs
EElliot, Dev Freeman CMcCaffrey, D MArtin, TColeman, AMorris
    A Sef-Jenkins
Jax and Phily Def (hate to give one to my opponents)

Lost OBeckham now will lose Elliot I need to buff the team for the play off run :
    In PPR
TE: Do I pick up Greg Olson (FA) and keep for the play offs? Who would I drop ? AMorris

QB: Worried about Winston’s health Do I ride it out right now or pick up McCown or Goff? Who would I drop? A Morris? One of my WR?

WR: Do I wait to drop Fuller or drop and pick up available JuJU Smith-Schu, C Davis, R Anderson, C Coleman?

RB shake it up to anticipate Elliot gone? Available are MMack, D Henry, Darkwa, Drake If I already dropped Morris for one of the above, who do I drop?

Trade: Any of the above I can do without or use as trade bait – then I can search for a team in need. Thank you!!!
