Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going into Week 12

trashman-editThe playoffs are almost here friends. Only a few more weeks of ecstasy… or agony, depending on how you look at it. Here are a few of my thoughts going into the last quarter of the season.

Steelers vs. Browns

  • Rogers was 3rd in Pitt targets behind Brown and Bell in this one with 6. He’ll stay involved this week, but I’m tempering my expectations as Scott Tolzien is likely to be under center for the Colts, and that means scoring across the board could be down.
  • I expected bigger things from TE Green in this one, and he almost had a TD if not for a drop. That being said, he needs more than 2 targets to be of consequence in fantasy.
  • Hue Jackson says he wants to run the ball more, but his actions don’t reflect that sentiment. Crowell has gotten single digit carries in 3 back-to-back games, and that probably won’t change against the Giants this week.
  • Coleman actually led the Browns in targets(12), but Kessler couldn’t connect with him. He could bounce back big in an attempt by the Browns to keep up with the Giants through the air this week, especially with possibly having McCown back under center.

Terrence West 750

Ravens vs Cowboys

  • West and Dixon split carries almost evenly in week 11. West was effective enough to remain the starter though, and he actually saw more targets than Dixon. Both will be middling flex plays against the Bengals.
  • Perriman was nowhere to be seen after a productive week 10. His lack of targets leaves his floor too low to keep him anywhere outside of dynasty leagues.
  • Dak is doing more than just managing games these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if he maintains QB1 status going into next season.

Jaguars vs Lions

  • Ivory had arguably his best game of the year once Yeldon went down to an ankle injury. Should Yeldon sit this week, Ivory makes for a solid flex in all formats.
  • Hurns has taken a clear backseat to Lee in the Jaguars’ pecking order. He needs to be owned in all formats as the only constant for Jacksonville right now.
  • Marvin Jones can’t be started against Minnesota, but there’s too much potential to drop him just yet.
  • I also wouldn’t go chasing Boldin’s 9 targets… normally, but one has to assume he’s going to be the checkdown against Minnesota this week too. He’s viable in PPR leagues.

Titans vs Colts

  • Sharpe is back on the fantasy map with 3 50+ yard games and 2 TDS in 3 weeks. He’s worth a dart throw in deeper leagues this week against the Bears.
  • Rishard Matthews is an every week play until otherwise noted.
  • Luck is looking like a no go for Thanksgiving, making Scott Tolzien the likely starter against Pittsburgh. Gore is the only Colt I feel remotely safe with in that scenario.

Tyler Boyd 750

Bills vs Bengals

  • Shady is a big question mark this week after having surgery on a dislocated thumb. You need to have Gillislee ready to go. Jonathan Williams would be a wild card too in the event of a McCoy absence. He got limited action in week 11 but averaged over 6 yards a carry.
  • Woods went back to earth against the Bengals but he was injured in the first quarter. With Harvin and Tate in the mix, his floor comes crashing down either way.
  • Gio has a torn ACL, making Hill a borderline RB1 from here on out – however, he starts out with a horrible matchup against Baltimore.
  • Green is “week-to-week” with what was thought to be a completely torn hammy. (Editor’s Note: It’s hard to envision them pushing Green back unless they are in the playoff picture). LaFell and Boyd are both viable plays this week.

Buccaneers vs Chiefs

  • Shorts III had a decent line Sunday on 7 targets, but he’s not an option against Seattle this week. No one other than Evans and Martin is.
  • Tyreek Hill was 3rd in targets on Sunday after being a ball hog the week before. Nothing is certain for him this week against Denver. It’s best to leave him benched.
  • Kelce does make for a decent play versus Denver though, as TEs have been able to get open against them.

Jordan Howard 750

Bears vs Giants

  • Despite vulturing a goal line TD, Langford is the clear backup to Howard. He’s only worth owning if you’re a Howard owner.
  • With Miller lost for the season, Meredith becomes the go-to in Chicago whether he likes it or not. He should be owned in most formats. Scratch that, Cutler is out with a torn labrum. This is the Howard show.
  • With TDs in 3 straight games, Shepard makes for a solid play against a Cleveland team that will do it’s best to contain ODB with Joe Haden.
  • Jennings is doing enough to keep his job as the starter in NY. Perkins will have to wait.

Cardinals vs Vikings

  • All Cardinals WRs outside of Fitzgerald stunk on Sunday, but they should have an easier go of it against the high-flying Falcons this week. Fitz is still the only safe play.
  • Patterson led the Vikings in targets on Sunday, but he’s still only useful in return yardage leagues. I like Thielen more this week.
  • The Vikings are doing their damndest to make McKinnon a lead back, but it’s not working. I still like Asiata more than him in all formats.

Dolphins vs Rams

  • The Dolphins are making a concerted effort to get the ball into Parker’s hands. He needs to be owned and started going into the playoffs.
  • Goff came in and did nothing as a passer, which was kind of expected. As terrible as Keenum was, he could still matriculate the ball downfield. Every Ram takes a hit except Gurley, who they’ll lean on big time as Goff learns.

Patriots vs 49ers

  • Malcolm Mitchell finally showed some of what we’ve been talking about here at RosterWatch, and the receiver major praise from Brady afterwards. He should stay involved even when Gronk returns.
  • White still has the edge on Lewis in the passing game.
  • Bennett was relegated to mainly blocking duties against the 49ers, missing out on his big opening with Gronk out. You can’t trust him in a Belichick offense.

Eagles vs Seahawks

  • It was bound to happen sooner or later. Just as Mathews was getting his stride, he goes and sprains his MCL. Sproles followed suit with a rib injury. Wendell Smallwood will be a hot commodity this week, and rightfully so. He can do a little of what both Sproles and Mathews can do, and he’s got fresher legs than both.
  • DGB finally showed up in the box score with 50+ yards and a TD on 8 targets. He’s worth a flier against the Packers this week.
  • Prosise is likely done for the season. Hope he helped you while he could. Rawls is going to win fantasy leagues now. Alex Collins is the backup.

Packers vs Redskins

  • Cook had what will likely be his best game of the season in his first action since week 3, but he’s definitely worth a pickup in the hopes that they keep feeding him.
  • His return saps Davante Adams’ value as a red-zone threat. If you haven’t hit your trade deadline, you might want to try to move Adams.
  • Kelley had a huge stat line, but his game wasn’t that impressive in real time. He averaged about 3 yards a carry on 24 carries. He’s still worth starting, just temper your expectations this week.
  • The Packers secondary is virtually nonexistent, but you can’t ignore Garcon’s run over the last few games. He makes for a strong play against Dallas’ bending DBs.

Texans vs Raiders

  • Fiedo is the only thing making Osweiler look like a capable QB. He’s a TE1.
  • Braxton Miller may have surpassed Fuller on the depth chart for the time being. I’d normally say he might be worth a flex in deeper leagues against San Diego this week, but this is an Osweiler led team we’re talking about. Nothing is guaranteed.
  • Olawale had a big play against the Texans, but I wouldn’t expect him to repeat his performance this week.
  • Crabtree had an off night on 7 targets. He’ll likely bounce back against Carolina’s faltering secondary.

  1. .5pr / .5 rush 1st down keeper league. I have Evans, Dez, Ty Williams, Rishard M. Guy with #1 ww priority is loaded at rb but thin at wr. I think can get him to grab and trade me Smallwood for either TyWill or Rishard, who are my best flex options this week. My rbs are Lamar, DMurray, Crow, Duke and Hightower, so I’ll have a week 13 bye hole to plug. Thoughts? Thank you

  2. 1 ppr . I have Clay & Fiedorowicz as my TE’S. Brady (not trading just letting you know), Mariota & Kaep (as my QB’s). Other guy has Gates & Brate as his TE”s and Bortles and Winston as his QB’s. He offered me Bortles for Mariota (doesn’t really matter to me) or Bortles for Kaep. I’m really interested in Gates (nice schedule moving forward). So What do you think about packaging Mariota/Fiedorowicz for Gates as a counter?

  3. The Minister of Mess! The Sultan of Smell! The Governor of Garbage! What do you think about streaming Carson Wentz at home versus Green Bay? Or should I look for another Garbage Grab gridiron gladiator like McCown?

  4. I own both Rivers and Tyrod after dropping Dak for Tyrod per rankings last week which backfired! 5-7 now and need to win out to have any chance at playoffs!

    So which QB this week?

    Prescott vs. WAS
    Wentz vs. GB
    Tannehill vs. SF
    Taylor vs. JAX
    Rivers @HOU
    Bradford @DET
    Flacco vs. CIN

FYI not sure if Dak will even clear waivers because I’ll have last priority due to dropping him.

  5. Season Long Standard – Lost Miller, who should I p/u from these available TE’s. Ertz, Fiedorowicz, Pitta, Cook, McDonald, Barnidge

  6. Prater or McManus for remainder of year

  7. Hey TM, sounds kind of crazy but not really given lack of production but: cut Marv Jones for Tyler Boyd?

    1. if you need the win this week, then yes
